To get ahead of their own competitors, facebook should integrate bitcoin into their platform.

yes, especially on facebook .. so much they are making bitcoin group with the number of members of hundreds or even thousands. not just one, but many countries

I think Facebook will probably try to profit from bitcoin, but in the future will likely just make their own coin or some form of currency or 'credits'.

bitcoin is taking over. facebook should use bitcoin, it's reliable.

How is bitcoin being used on facebook?

I think he missed a period out of his sentence. I fixed it for you  Wink.

No reason why both facebook and bitcoin can't mutually benefit from joining.

Its not about benefit for FB. Zuck is doing fyne w/o Bitcoin, but Bitcoin needs FB. SO if Zuck employs Litecoin or Dogecoin instead of Bitcoin, because of his enmity with Winklevoss, that wont do good for Bitcoin.

Eventually, Facebook, along with most major businesses will be on board with Bitcoin. This wave can't be stopped.

An interesting thought was tweeted by Rick Falkvinge today saying that Facebook could basically take over banking within 2 years.

Think about that for a second.

Its has a billion strong user base and already has all your info. It is only a smallish step to 'verfy'identities for money transfer. Twitter already does this.

Remittance is a multi billion $ industry with large fees. It has long been rumoured that Facebook has been looking to enter the payments space.

Not hard to envisage a future where you send money to your friends/family etc using facebook.

It's scary trying to envisage this. It seems Facebook or some other form of social network will be engrained into every faucet of life. I'm not sure wether this is a good or a bad thing. It is definitely left open to be exploited though.

I would argue that it is a bad thing as any website that is this connected to your life will ultimately know a lot about you which leads to decreased privacy. I would personally not want facebook knowing about where I spend my money or who I send my bitcoin to.

It's just an app made by someone else. Facebook is just allowing that app.
I agree with you. I have also notice that its a Facebook app. In Facebook you will find a lot of apps.

There is no rule that you have to tell facebook every little detail about your life and there is no rule that says you have to use them for currency remittance.

I had a scary thought.. Facebook creates its own altcoin, let's call it Facecoin, and basically positions itself to be the only tipping mechanism allowed through their site. Someone reassure me this would never happen, please?

I don't think that's a reason to be afraid. Same reason an iCoin is probably not going to happen. Of course it would be easy to implement something like that within the walled garden, but it's hard to believe that merchants around the world would accept facebook or apple bucks. Just too American and not enough International.
However, of course they might try ...

I guess it is easier to tip someone in a low value altcoin than it is to use a main coin like Bitcoin
That said or they are trying to avoid any controversy with facebook and bitcoin by going with the less popular coins instead.
Still worth noting in my opinion.

we really need to use another altcoin and also invite friends in order to remain stable and balanced market, or we do not get at all. altcoin or bitcoin

there is a single script kiddie that made all of those altcoins as his pump and dump to make money out of fools that swap their valuable bitcons for his worthless couple dozen coin designs..

he now wants to try making them appear useful by making an app. and promoting it through coindesk.. i even suspect the OP is a sockpuppet of the coin dev and using a subtle form of advertising here..

all in all dont trade your bitcoins for those worthless altcoins

This ^ is probably what has happened here.

Silly kiddies. Cheesy

As I have learnt FB is already having Facebook credits, which is equivalent to centralized pre-mined alt coin.

Why would they make their own coin?  Any crypto coin would need to be decentralized but a Facebook coin would conceivably only be used on Facebook. Do you see the problem here?
