Even at $0.075 for residential and $0.08 for small business the "hidden tax" for power can be substantial.

Here is the added charges for Alberta Power Users.

Residential

Distribution   $0.51906 per day base fee of  $17.13 on a 33 Day billing cycle.
                         $0.00626 per kWh
 
Transmission    $0.02135 per kWh
Rider K               $0.0058 per kWh

Local Access Fee $0.0066 per kWh

This adds $0.04 per kWh on top of your $0.075 rate. Making your residential rate $0.115 Average for 25 GH/sec with 67 GPU's eats up just over 11kWh x 24h = 264kWh per day on a 33 day billing cycle eats up 8712kWh a month.

Factor in the $6.14 "admin" charge and you have a monthly bill of $1025.15 @ residential rates.

The local access fee is not regulated by the AUC, this is a charge leveied by the City of Edmonton and is passed on by the Distributor. This targets renters to pay a form of property tax instead of increasing property tax for the property owners. All combined not including the per day distribution rate, increases rates by $0.05537 per kWh.

I am in New Brunswick, Canada.

My cost is $0.0985 per kWh and there there is that damned tax added on top of that ... 13%  And, of course, a monthly service charge for the privelage of having electricity which is currently $19.73

At least in the winter months the heat from the gpu keeps the basement nice and warm

In the UK and just changed providers so now paying approx $0.15 per kWh.  I was paying quite a bit more.  Last year I was paying nothing and mining like crazy but due to the current difficulty level it makes mining borderline profitable at present.

I can offer (GPU-)miner-housing at 12 Eurocent/kWh "all inclusive" (rent for space, internet, fresh-air-cooling) in Austria, near Graz. Could be useful especially for miners from European Union... if you're interested, send a PM to discuss further details.

This past month I unfortunately hit Tier 5 with Southern California Edison because I was setting a couple of rigs at home and testing for stability.  Tier 5 costs me $0.39/KWH    Normally I only mine on one main PC at home with a 6950 which puts me into Tier 4 (more than 340KWH) which costs $0.30 (this is with the winter discount pricing).  Obviously I'm losing money mining at home, but my main rig would be on anyways pulling 100 watts as a file server part of the time.  I don't think anybody can mine in CA without having free electricity  

How in the world do you survive on less than 340kWh/month?!?!?! Looking through my 2012 bills, my lowest usage was 580kWh/month before mining, highest was 1180kWh/month with a 5970 and 5870 mining, and I'm only in a two-bedroom apartment (electric stove, electric heat/ac).

That said, I pay $0.093/kWh flat rate in Rolla, MO.  Not too bad.

I posted on another one of these threads, was running ~8c per kwh then... now it's ~7c per kwh... (3 cent reduction instead of 2 cent)

last month was $245.62 for 3590kwh (i'm leaving out the $20 'customer charge' since i'd have to pay that regardless). 

the tiers here, you pay less if you use more electricity.  i  found it pretty odd when ppl started mentioning how they pay more if they use over a certain amt.   delivering a large quantity of something to 5 ppl beats delivering a small quantity to 20.

I am literally a county south and I pay .065 cents for first 1k KW and .075 cents thereafter. Glad I'm not in the City.

FFS I can't believe what some people are paying! And I thought mine was bad...

In WI, I'm considered R3 (even without mining) which is the highest, there is no R4)

Subsidized Residential is like .027/KWH
(Income restrictions)

Residential 1 is about .05/KWH
(Apartment/Condo)

Residential 2 is tiered .02-.12/KWH
(Small house/large Appt or Condo)

Residential 3 is tiered .04-.14/KWH
(Large house)

In my case it's 12hrs peak and 12hrs off-peak. I don't remember exactly but I think I chose 6AM-6PM peak hours. We're able to choose 6-6, 7-7, 8-8, or 9-9...

It's worked out very nice in winter! With all the 6970s and 5970s I've been running I could literally TURN OFF my heat in the house if it was above 25F outside (in a 4,000 sq ft home) and stay above 70F!! Those things really kick out the heat!

The entire operation is moving to the data center I work at though once our ASICs arrive. We need the added security for our new ASIC Mining Contracts but we'll be running on wind/solar there. Commercial 4 is actually less if we need to failover to the grid for power!? WTF...

My parents come from a 3rd world country and very on I learned to live very frugally.  I got my first smartphone just 3 months ago (no text or data before that) and before that I was paying $80/month on Verizon of all things. My wife and I put less than a combined 17k on our 2 cars and we are professionals with doctorates and incorporated with businesses.  My parents house and my own house have never had any form of cable TV - don't feel like paying $100/mo when I don't have time to even take a piss without holding a baby lol.

If I made money hand over fist like people think all physicians do then yes I might consider burning electricity like mad.  Sadly that is not the case and I try to live as cheaply as possible sans the occasional splurge on a $3K DSLR or something like that.

Also keep in mind that when RMU's supply runs low they fire up diesel generators to make up the shortfall.  How's that for being green .
