I see this message "The last posting from your IP was less than 360 seconds ago. Please try again later."
but my last message was several days ago, and overtaking your ideas:
1 - I have 3 days ago installed windows, where only Chrome\FF with all plugins disabled (Flash etc.)
2 - My current IP has not changed in a few days, and it dedicated IP not shared
so can this be forum bug?.. if no, I am very interested to see this message what was posted from my IP 360 sec ago

Did you try posting within 360 seconds of logging in?

Did you try posting within 360 seconds of logging in?

I set "Always stay logged in" so I always "online"
but in window with 360sec error - "Total time logged in: 6 hours and 7 minutes."
so I do not think that it is somehow connected

Surf the forum for around 10mins it works for me. You should see your total time logged in increase.

The 360 seconds rule applies to posting and messages without discrimination!

If you sent a PM to someone then you can't simply post something in the forum! Wink

And also the logging in thing is true!

I guess you can only make a request to the database once 360 seconds!

Space for rent if its still trending

That can happen after logging in or sending out a PM, regardless whether or not you post on the forums.

Apart from logging in and sending PM, forum searching will also make your timer restart.

Logins count towards that time restriction, so in your case you tried to post within six minutes of logging in.

If you use the forum on a secure, personal machine then you might want to consider keeping your session active using the check box on login.

It is quite confusing , as it includes logins , PMs and posts.

Don't worry , just continue posting for a couple of weeks and it will stop happening as your activity reduces.

Once you cross 15 activity , your post cooldown shall become (90 - activity) , 75 seconds.
Once you cross 60 activity , your post cooldown shall become around 30 seconds.
Finally , once you cross 100 activity, your cooldown will be 12 seconds , dropping by 1 second for every additional activity , down to 4 seconds.

At around 60 activity itself , you will have a short enough interval such that it won't really matter. Continue posting and contributing , your post interval shall reduce rapidly.

No longer active on bitcointalk, however, you can still reach me via PMs if needed.

I never realised that. Four seconds is definitely a reasonable figure. I certainly haven't been restricted by this mechanism, not since I was a newbie anyway.

Thanks for sharing that info!

Indeed, the exact formulas can be found in the newbie readme. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=177133.msg5106206#msg5106206

Nobody will ever need less than 10 seconds.
I honestly cannot think of a scenario where a person who is not a spam-bot can formulate two replies in under 10 seconds.
Even if it is a one line answer to a quick question , it should always take a minimum of 10 seconds to click the topic , think about the answer, click reply , type that one line and post it.

No longer active on bitcointalk, however, you can still reach me via PMs if needed.

I think that the restriction goes down to four seconds as it includes private messaging. While it is bad to send unsolicited mails, perhaps there are cases where people need to send out messages to many people.

In any case it wouldn't bother me if it were 10 seconds.

You can send one PM to many different persons.
And it should take more than 10 seconds to type the receivers' username and message. Smiley

I don't worry about delay between messages, with my activity it may be half day:)
I worry about security, when doing nothing see this message it looks like "someone uses your IP"
think limit to DB requests sounds plausible.. may be session update, or some other background request
