The last time I heard, he is still in Japan, accompanied by his bodyguard. He is reportedly shifting from hotel to hotel every 2-3 days, as he is getting paranoid about his safety.

I think that he was sought to appear in a US court on may 5. (Article below) http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9247673/Mt._Gox_seeks_postponement_of_CEO_s_U.S._court_deposition?taxonomyId=17Not sure he appeared there though. Pretty sure he didn't. The article was written in April but still. Here's a quote from it: Mt. Gox was non-committal on whether the process of hiring a lawyer would be complete by May 5. The exchange said in the filing that it "cannot guarantee that Mr. Karpeles will attend the deposition on May 5, 2014, either."

^^^ Karpeles has refused to attend any hearing in the United States (or for that matter any foreign country outside Japan), citing security reasons. There is an American extradition warrant against him, and he is currently fighting it.

Does anyone know how may bitcoins he stole , I know he stole a lot of millions but how many 100 or more? So It's understandable about his worrying for his safety, he stole a lot of money and many people are mad at him. And I didn't hear recently where Mark Karpeles could be.

Why am I not surprised that he didn't choose to attend the court hearing in the US. No chance, son.

Hopefully he never attends. When Jap gets sick of him, he'll be hearing something else in the US. This time, his hotel room will only have one window and Bob, a biker.

Not that something would change if he came here to attend the court. Those coins are still missing and more likely they're gone forever or a really long time. I don't think that Japan authorities will let then run a new business again so they can help their old users recover with the profits. saveGOX doesn't seem like something possible in the moment. So yeah, no hope.

i wonder how he sleeps at night. it seems the gox bankruptcy will drag out years. maybe he will just lay low in japan a couple years, thinking it will all blow over. unfortunately for him, bitcoin might go to $1MM, and then the people he screwed will hold a vendetta forever....

Nope. There are restrictions placed upon him by the Japanese authorities. He can't leave Japan without their permission. And I believe that he willl be safer in Japan, as there are multiple threats against his life.
