I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around Ripple. i signed up at Villages (link below) and now I need to build a community - i.e. issue credit and make payments (?). I need to see this in practice and understand how Villages and Ripple works in a practical application.

Once you've signed up and joined my community on Villages, I'll send you 0.2 Bitcoin. Reply letting me know you've joined and provide your receiving address.

It might be a good use of this thread to document our experience with Ripple and Villages, and experiment with some issuing of credit and performing payments.

See you there.

LOL I sent half of the time back including a heart. This seems so confusing  Undecided. How do I 'generate' time and hearts apart from receiving it?

edit: btc's received, thanks!

Let's all endorse this guy and acknowledge him with a few thousand hours. Maybe we'll get free Mayan horoscope readings out of it.

My endorsement.

That sounds like real fun  Grin Sent some hearts and a couple thousand of hours for good measure.
Seems he's in bitcoins too. Maybe he's someone on the forums too?

P.S.:Are we ruining the whole trust-network thingy with our enormous hours?

Just beware the day when Daniel Levy knocks on your door and asks you to follow through on your promise of 2 thousand hours and puts you to work developing software for him at 40 hours a week for a year!

I'm fairly far away enough from him for him to do that  Tongue I think we're the first batch of people to liven up the network - talk about being an early adopter now.

I'm still lost. Everyone who's in the community should now acknowledge and um.. give hours to others, hearts to others (Huh) and um.. post things.

Everyone who provided an address has just received 0.2 as promised

i'm so confused.

Acknowledged and endorsed Janne:

From what I gather, it's an attempt at a classifieds/job board that deals with IOUs instead of money.

We've sorta skipped the "offering goods and services" part and gone straight to issuing IOUs.  Tongue

Still around.

In fact, I think we're already the wealthiest community on there.

Everyone start posting for things that you want or things that you have available for sale for hours (Huh)

I posted an offer of 1 hour for 1 Bitcoin

Now I'm really confused. I was jsut checking out my AcCount Settings and see that I have the option to give myself unlimited "Hearts" to distribute to whomever I like.

But here's the really confusing part:
Quote
"You choose a number of hearts to endorse them with. Each heart allows them and people they trust to send you one hour's worth of acknowledgement (more on this below)."

Quote
"Villages acknowledgements are a currency denominated in hours, consisting of gentle promises made to the person who helped you out to return the favour at some point in the future. When you have received acknowledgements, you can spend them to acknowledge others without having to issue any promises of your own."
So,

Acknowledgements = Hours of work promised

Hearts are like vouching for someone's integrity and each voucher is worth one hour's worth of Acknowledgement.

No wait, Hearts just allow someone to send you an hour in return.  Huh

Still around.
