Villages.cc has been developed by Ryan Fugger, like ripple. Is a simplified version where hours are the only units, without interest rates and without exchange rates (that enable charging proportional fees). You can learn more about ripple here:

Endorsements (hearts) are the account limits. When you give me 2 hearts you're saying "I accept jtimon to owe me up to 2 hours".
Acknowledgements are the payments.
Posts are just for advertising things you can offer for hours or things you want.
Reading this should be helpful:
https://villages.cc/about/how/About the big direct acknowledgements you're making...
Direct acknowledgements are not the norm. For example, say I have an offer "$10 in bitcoins for each hour". When you contact me to make the deal I won't accept direct acknowledgements as payment. If you pay me through a trusted acknowledgement someone I actually trust promises 1 hour to me instead of you who I don't trust. If there's no trust from me to you (through other users,
transitively) you can't pay me.
So you need hearts from other to be able to pay someone. You need to give hearts to others so that someone can pay you.
I'll be happy to answer any question you have.
