It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.

If the coin is dying and someone is seeking for a new developer, then it is obvious the project will fail regardless of actions taken.

It all depends on the execution and if there is a community strong enough to continue. Pinkcoin proved it. A coin is nothing but a name, until it is made valuable in the eyes of its holders.
