It is also important to note that jail is not always the answer to a person who has committed a crime. A long jail sentence is going to burden society who has to bear the cost of keeping this person in jail. If a person can be rehabilitated in some kind of rehab program or otherwise then the person has the possibility of contributing to society in the long run ( as well as the short run ). I admit that this is likely not an appropriate sentence for lost repasts however for some it may be.

Another thing that needs to be taken into consideration is the amount of evidence against the defendant. If there little evidence that would convict someone then the prosecutor may offer a lesser charge and or a less sentence in exchange for a guilty plea.

This is disgusting, and it represent one of the many things wrong with the US justice system (among others since our EU system has proven not to be any better with Bernie Ecclestone getting away with his crimes, although they were on much different scale and he paid over 100Million $ not some pocket change) , when rich people can walk away with their crime with a tap on the shoulder and when others normal people would have several years of prison for much less!

Yes, it's really shocking to see such big differences between different states and even countries in the world regarding punishment for rape of very young children.
I think that we, the people, should start sending protest letters (in this states and countries) to the politicians and others who make such weak criminal lows, and push them to change it.
Media should also report about this and help positive changes in this area.

The world we live in has been built with money. Everything you see around you exists because of money. It shouldn't be surprising that the people with the most money hold the most power. What people need to realize is that this is the world we accept to live in. If you really want things to change, you gonna have to dig a lot deeper than reading up on stuff like this and coming out with cliched responses expressing how 'angry' you are. Judging by the sheer hatred of every single individual on the planet toward pedophiles, the notion that this man could've gotten off with 60 days means that the courts are completely alienated from the market, of which is made up entirely of the people with the searing hatred; it's easy to forgive a stranger, who is a guilty pedophile, if he's giving you huge swathes of wealth, but it's very difficult to give the whole nation of ~350 mil enough wealth to be forgiven: thus, the smaller the group is which needs to be paid off, the better off the wealthy man is in the end.
