SEC form D filing: http://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1598389/000090266414002722/xslFormDX01/primary_doc.xml

A short write up about it: https://medium.com/@inthepixels/pantera-bitcoin-fund-ltd-files-form-d-with-sec-beeab628f143

There is not much press about this for some reason. Barry Silbert (Second Market) said there were 10 or so funds looking to invest in bitcoin who "don't get out of bed for less than $50MM."

Wow! This is too good to be true. A total of 45 investors have participated in this hedge fund so far... so the average investor put somewhere around $2 million into this. If this is true, then we can expect a lot of such funds in the near future.

This is definitely true unless Pantera is lying to the SEC in their filing!

More hedge funds to come. I know I'll be buying more coins later this week.

I'm disappointed this has nothing to do with the one and only true Pantera.  I'd invest if it was, heh.  I demand they select a new name at once.   Grin

Cool! So this means that the hedge funds might have been hoarding the Bitcoins already. I was wondering about the sudden rise in the Bitcoin exchange rate, for the past 30 days or so. Initially I thought that it was due to the waning of the Mt Gox effect. Now it seems that the hedge funds contributed very significantly as well.

Now we wait for the herd mentality. That combined with the fact that a lot of wealthy people now have a vested interest in bit coin succeeding is huge. It is starting to happen.

Yes... a lot of UHNW individuals have made investment in Bitcoin recently. I don't know how many of them are speculators and how many of them are real investors. I just hope that most of them are genuine investors.

I think over time you will see a higher proportion of investors to speculators. As the price stabilizes there is less to be made from playing the margins.

I really doubt that. As the popularity of Bitcoin increases, we might witness an increased flow of the speculators. Some of the margin, future and option traders in Wall Street might try out Bitcoin in the near future.

Personally I think we are sometime away (2-3 years at least) away from the price "stabilizing"...in the meantime I suspect there will be a mad rush to purchase bitcoin here relatively soon.

The Bulls are preparing to stampede, this is one party we can be happy to be around.  Smiley
A month ago some people were asking "Where are the big Wall Street investors/ Who are they", and...
Now there is yet another answer.

Pretty much this. It's amazing to ready what you all are posting from day to day. It goes to show how much more people have left to learn about bitcoin. Once those "big investors" start knocking... it's going to take off like a rocket. I'm super excited to see what happens the next couple months, let alone next couple years.

I mean over time as in a 3-5 year period. With more and more merchants coming in each day I think we are on the verge of some panic buying.
