https://twitter.com/CoinBuzz/status/476702843890434048What do you guys think about this? Do you think it will affect the BTC price? I personally believe this is even better than when Overstock started to take BTC.

I think it is awesome! I hope they have some big banners that declare we now take bitcoin. Nothing like good media from a decent company. :Edit I just checked the site, no bitcoin payment option as of yet or I missed it

Wow, that is great news, and yeah, I think it's probably a bigger deal than Overstock. I'd never actually even heard of them until they started accepting Bitcoin, but Expedia is pretty huge. One of my goals is to be able to travel the world on Bitcoin so this is another step in the right direction.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-switch/wp/2014/06/11/expedia-wants-you-to-book-your-next-hotel-stay-with-bitcoin/"Adopting support for bitcoin transactions is relatively straightforward. Both Expedia and Dish Network have contracted with Coinbase, one of the top payment processors in the virtual currency universe. When a user commits to a hotel reservation and wants to pay, Expedia will hand the user off to Coinbase's Web site, where the customer will log into her personal bitcoin wallet and authorize the transaction. (This should sound familiar to anyone who's used PayPal to buy goods and services online.) Coinbase then automatically converts the bitcoins into dollars and boom, the payment is complete. Expedia was able to execute on this idea in a matter of months, according to Gulmann, who added that the costs of implementation were "not that big. To understand why this isn't a gimmick and it actually makes sense for all kinds of businesses, we have to talk about fees. Over the long run, Expedia, Dish and other companies stand to save a lot of money by taking payments in Bitcoin. That's because the transaction fees levied by credit card companies on merchants are in some cases more than double what a comparable bitcoin processer might charge. For example, Visa charges merchants as much as 2.95 percent per transaction. Coinbase charges just 1 percent — and the fees kick in only after a merchant has done more than $1 million per month in business."

Buy a TREZOR! Premier BTC hardware wallet. If you're reading this, you should probably buy one if you don't already have one. You'll thank me later.

Probably it won't.. Lately the price follows more the exchanges from China and the fud from the PBoc rather than the good news about adoption. And the last jump was done out of the blue , without any major news about adoption at that moment. I still wish that i'm wrong ..

Accepting BTC via Coinbase is a great first step.
But i hope that within the next few years Companies will switch to direct, or at least not convert 100% to USD anymore.
PS: I also don't expect any great price movement from this

And the last jump was done out of the blue , without any major news about adoption at that moment.
Was probably due to technical analysis, breach of bearish trend and all that.

Has anybody made a timeline when big companies added bitcoin services? It would be really neat to look at.

"Coinbase charges just 1 percent — and the fees kick in only after a merchant has done more than $1 million per month in business." ^ No fees until $1m/month. I wonder what the monthly threshold is for smaller merchants.

I don't think it will affect the bitcoin price very much. But I do think this is incredibly good news for bitcoin. Looking forward to booking my next trip with bitcoin.

Was probably due to technical analysis, breach of bearish trend and all that. Unfortunately this is true and is annoying as hell. We went up because the charts said it's time we go up and now we have a correction because traders follow the charts and a correction is needed according to them. Time to break away again from this trend and let usage and adoption dictate the "real" price if there is any.
