Ok first sorry if this is not the correct thread.. please move it to the correct one..

Here is something I have been thinking about..

I am not sure if this is even possible..

I have seen in the BTC-qt wallet you can send a message with you payment

Is it possible to make a program that you can send a message to an unlimited number of btc addresses
with a message .. well an advertisement..

So you could import say 10,000 hand picked btc wallet address and give them 0.0000001
plus the message the ad... is that even possible..

I know a lot of the wallets can't handed messages but what is the % that can ...

Anyway think of this before...

I don't see this as spam as you are giving the person money to get you message..

ps

sorry to people that think ads to your wallet is not right ... but if it is not me there will be many many others that will do it..

The majority of the people do not read messages I think, myself included.
By default, most bitcoin wallets do not show any messages.
If you want to advertise, btc advertising networks will reach more eyeballs  Smiley

There are people who already do this. When I browse the blockchain, I see a lot of ads. I think, there is a reason, why you don't see this messages in most wallets: exactly that.

if you do like that, most user who get your "dust" BTC will hate you since you send them spam
not a good way to promote something using method like that
but if you send them 0.01 BTC for every address, i'm sure they will see your link in that address Tongue
few months ago, someone use your method and sent 1 satoshi to many address
their address 1sochi adn 1enjoy if i'm not wrong

Sure, go ahead if your goal is to piss people off. It absolutely IS spam since the amount you're sending couldn't buy a peanut even if you receive 1,000 messages.

And your rationalization ('if it is not me there will be others') is weak.  Do the right thing regardless of what others would do and earn coin by doing something worthwhile in the community.

I have seen in the BTC-qt wallet you can send a message with you payment

You can sign a message with your address (private key), but you can't send a message in qt.

The only place I see messages in the blockchain is on blockchain.info. My desktop wallets don't seem to show them. So that puts a damper on things.

Yeah I remember getting that, when I pressed on the address that sent it I could click on a link to some dumb auction site.

The fundation could add a function to show a message every block; week or month; the money raised will go to the miners after they took a healthy cut

What about blockchain bloat? This seems like a lot of unnecessary information/data to be burdening the blockchain with.

You can spam my bitcoin adress with 0.1 BTC  Grin  - I am as poor as a church rat.

I think people are fed up with spam. Just yesterday, I got sms'ed spam at 12'o clock at night, and I hated that company. It surely did not help them, by spamming me.

Give them, value and make it worth their time, and you might get something from it. But in general, people frown on this imo.

Someone has tried doing this before.

They sent .00000001 BTC to several addresses. The originating address was traced back to a gambling site.

I was thinking the same thing

I am surprised there is not a coin that invoves adds in each transaction
If it was implemented in Bitcoin, the Bitcoin foundation could sell adds per 0.0001% of the transactions, if you buy one slot your add will be seen on 0.0001% of the transactions for a given month or year

Yup, a lot of businesses used to do the Satoshi Ad thing. It was pretty unprofitable, though, people tended to ignore them. You could search it up, "Just received a random Satoshi" or "blockchain ads".

I don't know if it is that unprofitable, businesses still do it

You can reach 100,000,000addresses with 1BTC

Indeed, you can create those ad transaction without any fee attached using createrawtransaction.
It is almost sure that the tx won't get included in a block. You can double spend the tx later and you won't need to spend a dime for the ad.

I think they usually only send to addresses that have unspent outputs associated with them.

I think the most recent time someone tried this that it even made the news.
