I don't think that Litecoin is dead for the same reason that Bitcoin is dead. Litecoin has branding power and some legacy to it. It is the first altcoin.

I think that Litecoin may fall a little bit in standing, but it won't die out completely. There are some innovative coins coming out that offer strong competition like CinniCoin with its encrypted messaging and invoice, receipt and SKU system and export into QuickBooks. X11C apparently has some new features coming out and it is going to get a lot of attention when Rev2 comes out.

please put your names on this topic so we can all laugh at you in a year Wink

we have all heard the sky is falling on LTC before.. it's as old as "it's going on Gox soon" lol

i need to compile an I told you so list i think.

in a year people will be like Dark what ? NXt what ? Nem what ? What are those scam coins ? lol
and they will be trading up a frenzy with Jackpot coin Smiley

I think that in a year from now people will be like, "Dark what???"

But that Litecoin, NEM, and NXT will all be in the top 10.  Just in what order isn't exactly clear.  There are way too many factors.

PoS right now is an experiment that is growing and growing and growing.  It very well could pop because of a flaw or something we don't know about.  It is very possible.

On the other hand.  It could keep on going.  Did you know a guy at NXT is running a testnet on a distributed exchange?  You can trade BTC for LTC directly via the NXT asset exchange (not ever having to touch NXT except to pay the very small fee).  And since the exchange is distributed, there is no one central party to run away with your money and GOX you.  When and if it comes out, I will do all my trades there.  He is also saying he will cut the fees in half or more that regular exchanges charge.  Try to do that with BTC or LTC.

NXT in a few months has already done what took Mastercoin (working with bitcoin) over a year to do and NXT's version is waaaaaay better, faster, and easier to use.  Months or years ahead of Mastercoin.

I think that kind of innovation is hard to just forget about.  If NXT didn't have such an awful back story, it would already be much bigger than it is.  But at some point people are going to say, "yeah...... how it started sucked, but it is way more safer than Crypsy, and cheaper too. No more tickets and no more lost funds."

And that is just one of many functions that are planned.

ha ha just browsing this topic and others i love how people keep bringing up NXT and everyone ignores it like the circle jerk it is, just though id add that .

honestly i hardly even know what it is, when you scam, you have have to make your scams at least partially believable i think thats the lesson here.

same goes for "Etherum" etc and Ripple, its like they are trying to push this stuff onto the market in a peer driven environment, how did that all work out?

sorry guys give me the halving "scam" any day at least it lets a few people in, you don't even have a community.

this is why Litecoin will continue to do ok.

Basically the argument is:

"LTC isn't innovative and has no new features therefore the coin I am invested in should be the new #2 coin and that is why you should buy it so I can dump it on you when the price gets high enough so I can be rich!"

I said the rise out of the blue happened AFTER years of stagnation. I held most mined coins from 2011 waiting for litecoin to wake up from the dead where it was just groaning..  even held past the $4+ range and watched the drop again, there was no healthy, gradual increase because Litecoin wasn't doing anything interesting, nor where there strong fundamentals accounting for a rise.  the prior months the coin had only been kept alive by continuous promise about gox adding ltc to midas, ltc soon on coinbase! arise chikun memes and 'fontas' pumps on the trollbox, no better than dogecoin.

Thankfully for ltc bagholders the greedy mining 'ecosystem' is here-- now we're back to the goldrush mentality with naive holders expecting they we will see a microcosm of bitcoin - price rise due to difficulty of mining. they will line up to buy silver coin printing machine from a manafacturer who built it for $100 worth of silver coins, that has already mined $250 worth of silver coins with it and then sell it for $300 silver coins even though it will only dig back $200 worth of silver coins and call that a functioning economy. And who's buying? who's buying ltc over bitcoin and why? And what's the expectation of halving day? I've been shorting LTC in past months whilst holding investment in manufacturer producing ASIC, and it's just easy profit to be truthful with you. But feel free to hodl strong 24/7 like a boss all you want.

But feel free to hodl strong 24/7 like a boss all you want.

who can remember the ridiculous run up from ~$2 per LTC to $45? which came out of the blue after years of ltc stagnation

Which can mean the $2 to $45 comment implying that the price was at $2 and went to $45 after years of stagnation AT $2.

Oh and if you look at the price movements in LTC/BTC history there was little stagnation since LTC's inception price gyrating between 0.00045BTC to 0.05 and all in between. There has been multiple gyrations of 10-fold price changes when the price was in the pennies.

Stagnation? lol hardly when the volatility in % was insane. You just were not around when it happened so you once again do not know what you are talking about.

I was here when LTC launched with CPU mining. Sold the first pizza for LTC, sold the first 6990 for LTC, and the first silver eagle 1 oz for LTC and did the first futures contract for LTC, as well as created the first physical silver litecoins and brass litecoins.

Trust me I think I know much more than you think you do when it comes to "stagnation". Most people will get shaken out in times of "stagnation". But what does that really define as? Price below 10 cents? lol...

I probably wrote wrong.I mean litecoin was going nowhere fast.

about your 'You just were not around when it happened so you once again do not know what you are talking about.' comment.  I was mining LTC in the first 3 days. mining geist geld before that just like you. My first LTC tx was from coblee-  still have that 50ltc sitting on a wallet somewhere unspent, probably sign a message with the addy if i really gave a shit. This accounts a random one- still regged 3 months before you showed up, real one was regged back in bitcoin.org smf days- prior to migration here, before newliberty but what do you know about that ..

Simply you're heavily invested in LTC. An 'iconic figure' in the litecoin world. no problem there. You stand to make it pretty big if ltc has a huge rise and you'll get told about in history books just like lazslo, but just call a shovel a shovel. If you held strong the past months guaranteed you lost money, while I was making it. But again, feel free to pat yourself on the back for not getting shaken out.

1. So back to your comment...stagnation means less than a price of 10 cents? I disagree with this purely based on the volatility of the market in the first 2 years.

2. Nope I havent lost a single cent. In fact I've made out good even holding LTC. But to have full disclosure I've sold off much my holdings above 0.03 and in the recent down movement in the past months. So if you want to speculate if I've lost money while you were making it...have at it as profit is profit lol. But that means nothing concerning my longer term predictions of where the price will go. Just because I chose to sell at a price means nothing of what I think will happen in the future longer term.

lol pats self on back for calling profit "profit" when profiting.

DRK will be made illegal.

Spot on.

If anyone thinks politicians around the world are going to allow totally anonymous cryptocoin to exist for illegal activities just because those involved in Silkroad were caught then they are dreaming.

how did you come up with that???

2378.71 BTC in buy orders divided by 534839.39 LTC in sell orders.
AND
881331.5 USD in buy orders divided by 452119.09 LTC in sell orders.

All pointing to quite bearish market sentiment. The price tends to go where the average is. Usually. If nothing extraordinary happens that reverses the trend.

Just seems like a useless statistic. EVERY coin has buy orders and sell orders that are dangling way beyond what the trading range is. Care to run the average on btc?

Not quite useless. I noticed that when the average price buyers are willing to pay is close to the current selling price, the market is ready to move higher or actually trending higher already. When the average price is way below the current selling price, it means there are simply not enough buyers and the market is trending lower. I believe current average for Bitcoin is $400 or something like that, meaning there is a build-up of bearish sentiment on Bitcoin. It's all momentum based too, it can change very quickly. Just do those calculations every time you want to trade or every day and you'll see what I mean and will notice price moves connected to that average price.

I think six months from now LTC will be surpassed by another alt in the #2 position, but LTC will not fade away to nothing by any means.
