Hello everyone,
Apparently mining on a 5970 puts the same load on the card as for instance running Boinc GPU projects such as Dnet. Is it just me, or do your VRM temps skyrocket while mining?
Currently reaching 110c...

I would not worry about 110C. Just do your best to cool the card and its VRMs and as long as temps do go crazy like over 120C you should be fine. The cards and the VRMs are built to handle running at high temps so like I said I would not worry about it too much. My 5970 with a super beefy aftermarket cooler (Sapphire 5970 with the Aero tri-fan cooler) currently runs at 102 C on the VRMs for the secondary and 89-96,98 for the primary GPU. The temps were a tiny bit higher but I manged to lower them by reducing the mem clock to 300 MHz.

i have 2 5970's watercooled, vrms stay in the 70's with cores running at 965mhz @ 1187mv
getting 1440000 khps over the 4 cores

Ok, here we're talking about cheapest 5970 solution for mining, so this means stock cooling. Ktnx for ur braggin', can I show my middle finger against this watercooling compared to mine dual-water cooled data center with dedicated 4 power generators?

When running Dual 5970's in my Zalman GS1000 case, The vrm temps were around the same as yours for both cards. Its nothing to really worry about, this is normal.

I had to give all the information for a complete answer, the mhz + voltage + cooling method all created the vrm temp, for example I could get vrm's in the 50's if i run at stock speed. cheers for the random hostility though.

110C is pretty high for stock cooler and non-overvolted. here's VRM temps from one of my quad 5970 boxes @ stock V, 21°C ambient, 830-870 core, 300 mem, fans 60% 75 / 75 / 73 C 90 / 93 / 90 C 71 / 72 / 69 C 81 / 83 / 82 C 70 / 73 / 69 C 87 / 87 / 87 C 66 / 67 / 64 C 84 / 91 / 86 C Core temps are in the 62-66 C range. System fans are 2 3kRPM 120x38 delta AFB for the GPUs, 1 for PSU + CPU section.
Btw, 70 C sounds about right for VRMs on a watercooled overvolted setup, a bit high but some 5970 blocks don't have the greatest VRM cooling.

I personally am trying to keep my VRM temps under 90C, at least until I burn in the card for a week. From what I read keep it under 110C or your card will throttle down. My apartment was super hot yesterday and my VRMs hit 110C, the card throttled down about 3% when I checked it. I would just put 2 1900RPM+ fans (Scythe Slipstreams are $18/2 on Newegg) over it and it'll drop your VRMs immensely on the second GPU core as well.
