I'd like to know how to purchase a relatively large number of XRP, perhaps worth 0.1~1.0 million USD. Let's say you had the cash in Japan (in JPY), which exchanges, banks, etc. would you use? Any help will be very much appreciated, thanks :]

Acquire BTC, move it to Bitstamp, convert half or more to USD, then withdraw the USD and BTC to your Ripple wallet. You can easily acquire that much XRP over a few days within the Ripple system itself using the USD and BTC. There is a fair bit of liquidity right now.

For these amounts getting in contact with Jed McCaleb might be an possibility, he's intending to sell a few billions of XRP anyways.

https://www.coinlend.org <-- automated lending at various exchanges.
https://www.bitfinex.com <-- Trade BTC for other currencies and vice versa.
