Have it downloaded, but none of my close friends use it. Have the same problem with Threema on Android.

General idea is really awesome but I wonder if this software is really safe. I mean if you can be sure that nobody will intercept your messages. Or there is no some backdoor to the system.

I am no expert, but I think the idea with Bitmessage is that the user does not need to rely upon centralised message services (like gmail, for example, who are known to scan our messages to deliver information to our corrupt governments). As to privacy concerns, best best best option is to ally the decentralised message service of Bitmessage with GPG, and you're very protected

I have been introducing Bitmessage to all my friends (and even clients) but only a few has shown any interest at all for it... but, guess what, I've also introduced bitcoin to all of them, and it has been the same... Bitmessage, privacy and Cryptocurrencies walk together: for us, cryptocurrencies users, it's something natural, but for the people who are still out of these novelties, it's something "weird and complicated"

regular people don't have any use of bitmessage, what would they need secrecy for?
who would they talk to as none of their friends (except you I guess ) are using bitmessage

Yes that sounds about right. Many of the people I know just don't see any point in using encryption for messaging and probably think of me as a paranoid nut (I may well be, but that's irrelevant)  

I do think things are changing though as it's becoming increasingly obvious that online privacy without a little effort is a delusion.



I have installed bitmessage and sent a test message, but it is stuck on "waiting for their encryption key" for the last few minutes.

Very true. Privacy is a human necessity. And it is very convenient for Google inc. USA inc. Bankers inc. etc that this false idea that "only criminals need privacy" is dominant.

The fact is that people have been conditioned to give up their privacy and become online exibitionists.

And here we are now in an Orwellian world, where people simply hand their rights away on a plate. Rights that, to be conquered, once have demanded the fight and the lives of many of our past heroes.

I guess one mans privacy is another mans secrecy.. conditioned indeed. I only hope with enough exposure and education, more people will begin to wake up and see what they have lost.
