Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

In XBet.IO you don't have to trust anyone with your money!

they don't take deposits.

they never have your money!

My advice would be to go with the above suggestions and not one of the many new sites that have popped up offering promotions just for this world cup. Trust is a big issue for them still and not worth the risk to your money imo...

that sound about right. they just all look the same to me. i don't know enough to tell the difference between one site or the other. how do they all work? i deposit coins, get a balance and bet with it or do i deposit straight to a specific pot?

if there is no deposit, how do the winners get the money?

You'd normally deposit to your account, from which you'd place bets.

I only just added sports betting to Pocket Rockets https://pocketrocketscasino.eu/sports
So that's new but Pocket Rockets Casino has been live for over a year now, you can see the official thread here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=220740.0

they don't take deposits.

the answer from xbet.io faq page:

"
No registration, identification or account is required. You do not have to open an account on XBet.IO to place a bet. Your money is kept wherever you decide. Moreover, since the funds are held in escrow by the network and not by a specific person or group, your funds can't be stolen or seized by anyone. We recommend using Counterwallet, which is free, open source and is fully compatible with XBet.IO
"

"

What is the difference between XBet.IO and the old betting sites?
XBet.IO is different from the old betting sites in many ways:

XBet.IO gives you the option to choose your own odds, and accept odds from other users.
In XBet.IO you can bet on an option to happen, like in the old betting sites, in addition, XBet.IO enables you to take the part of the "house" and make the opposite bet: the possibility that the event will not happen ('team A' will not be the winner of the match).
XBet.IO does not take deposits and therefore your money cannot be stolen or seized by anyone.
XBet.IO's fee is probably the lowest in the business - only 1%.
XBet.IO lines are all singles.
On XBet.IO, your anonymity is assured through the use of Bitcoins. No banks, credit card companies, or wife will know of your betting activity.
XBet.IO signs of on every bet XBet.IO offers and displays the signature, so you can be sure that XBet.IO will stand behind its word.

"
here is their video explaining how to bet safely:
https://xbet.io/how_to_bet

they are highly recommended and they just opened a chat so you can ask them directly on their site.

what is their rating?
XBet.IO is not rated because they are new. None of the bitcoin books hold verified funds in escrow. Be careful of sites that claim to hold funds in escrow without solid proof. The ratings are based on user input with payment history being highly weighted. You will not have problems with "A" and "B" rated books. They have been in business longer than a year with a spotless payout history.

This is also posted in another thread.

Players should be careful at this time of the year and play with established books. The World Cup is the most popular time for hit and run books. After that it's the Super Bowl. I'm not saying that the new kids on the block are necessarily bad books.  The odds say that some will be out of business shortly after the World Cup walking off with funds. This is not the time to test out new books.

so you are saying i should not trust xbet.io?

it sounds like they are the only place that can't run away with my money because they don't take deposits.

if they don't take deposits, how can they steal the money?

That decision is solely up to you since I don't want to tell anyone where they should or shouldn't play. It's also not my right to say that a book should or should not be trusted. Information and ratings are posted to help you make that decision.

And in fact, anybody running bitcoind and counterpartyd (both open source) on their own PC can place bets using the Counterparty protocol using the XBet.io feeds.  The web interface for the Counterparty wallet (aka Counterwallet) is open-source as well, and it can be placed on any computer and work just like it does at counterwallet.co.

The Counterparty developers have focused on a web interface first.  It is open-source as well.  https://github.com/CounterpartyXCP/counterwallet

Everything discoverable on the XBet.io website is also discoverable using a user-compiled counterparty installation.

the web wallet is open source and is not hosted by xbet.io.

i suggest you caeck them out and see for yourself how good of a service xbet.io are doing to bitcoin gambling

Escrow is money held by a third party.

In this case it is even better.

There is no third party like some lawyers office or anything like that. the third party is the counterparty protocol itself. the money can only go to the bettors and only the fee goes to xbet.io.

this escrow is at the protocol level so it cannot be gamed. true, provably fair sport betting is here!

if you should have used your rating system a year ago for mt.gox how would you have rated them? they have been around for many years at that time.

I really don't want to argue with you but MtGox has nothing to do with this. Many people use data mining to prove a point. The facts say that many, if not most, start up businesses fail. You opened June 9th. I only wish you success. It would be nice for the bitcoin community if you do succeed.

I am glad you aim for what is best for the bitcoin community. I do appreciate the work you do on your thread to help beginners know who to trust.

I hope that you will give xbet.io a try and know that after you give do it will make a believer out of you Smiley
