Has anyone considered trying this?

So many coins out there which had potential that have fallen by the wayside, all in the name of the new "next big thing" to be released.

Collectively, I'm sure if enough members decided on one coin to revive, and focussed on it, it could be done. The coin would have to be old enough to essentially be dead and no longer listed on exchanges, with a fairly low difficulty and with as few coins as possible mined. Publicly available source in case a fork is ever needed. Little or zero premine, ideally, and enough members to work on promoting the coin.

A vote would be required to decide, with a large enough selection list to mitigate the chance of someone mining it in advance before a decision is made.

I think that would be the general criteria.

Pinkcoin is proof of what an active community and devs can do to a dying / dead coin.

Check it out at: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=624017

What's the point of this?

What's the point of releasing a copy/paste coin, and having it mined, pumped, dumped and die off?

It seems people are only interested in new coins now. There are so many now it's difficult to keep track. What's the point of that?

Name some of the dead coins, you think that had (real) potential, but died.

Based on your answer, we then can discuss.

That's an oxymoron, no coins that had real potential died. Only the shitcoins died.

I share your opinion, that is why I am asking.

But what I can see are semi-dead projects that had potential like NameCoin.

Is that strictly true? It's difficult now for any coin to get noticed, and there are many reasons a coin can lose favour.

The problem with me suggesting coins is that of course I will be completely biased. The point would be if enough people agreed a single coin was worthy of revival, then it should be revived.

CENT (Pennies) is a coin I always liked, was almost dead for a long time now it's being revived, but I guess the more people join the movement the better it can get!

A coin is nothing but a name. Its what the community and devs do with it that brings it value. In the right hands, even Dafaq coin can be revived to be the next shooting star.

What's the point of this?
There is no real benefit from doing this. Dead coins are dead for a reason. Reviving them again for a short period of time won't change anything.
