Soda spilled on laptop, Please help!

Hey everybody. Last night I was sitting on the back porch with my little family (myself, my fiancee, and our 3.5 year old daughter. I have been doing an extra amount of work on the computer lately working on 2 different websites, and as such have had to bring my laptop with me everywhere I go. Sitting down doing some work, my daughter (who was bored) wanting to start throwing the ball with me. Totally cool, I love playing ball with my little girl. The ball we were playing with was one of the thin-plastic, air filled kids balls, and very lightweight. We were having a lot of fun, and she decided to start playing with the bigger, heavier kick ball. When I was turned around checking on something real quick (just-dice), she threw the ball up in the air and it landed on a half-full 32 ounce gas station soda. This knocked the pop right over and fully spilled onto my laptop. Oh shit!

So for starters I said, "Oh shit." Then, I hurriedly grabbed it and flipped it over, trying to pour out any excess liquid Asap. My fiancee told me about her hair dryer in the bedroom. I ran in there and and started using it on high heat, and blowing the keyboard area in an upside down position. I did this for a while, moving the hair dryer to all areas. I then turned a box fan on high and set the laptop in an upside down "V" position, with it open. I set it up like this in front of the fan on high. Today, it will power up and I can hear it running, but I cannot see anything. The monitor will not come on, it is just black nothingness. What can I do to help this? I also tried powering it up a couple times last night and today, and didn't turn my laptop off last night after the spill happened. Today, I learned that both of these things were bad. 

Can anyone help me out with this/give me advice?

You've probably fried the connection between the computer and the monitor.

When you spill something on a laptop, turn it over and remove the battery instantly.  Wait for it to completely dry before you attempt to power it on.

Probably won't help you now though.

Lol. I'm very open to that opportunity. He/she/it would just have to present a MacBook Air as well. I would love to get a new laptop, though I did love mine, but won't be able to right now due to a shortage of funds.

Ha yes, sage advice received just a little too late. Everything I read just mentioned removing the battery immediately. Though I Did remove it before most of the time in front of the fan, I didn't power off and remove it until a little too late.

How complicated/expensive/lengthy would it be to remove a fried connection there, if that was the case?

Buy a new laptop because it's most probably outdated by now and take out your old hard drive and buy a enclosure for it. Also take out the memory chips from your laptop might be compatible with your new one.

I agree. By the way, I don't recommend using something artificial to dry it out, or turning it over. It creeping out will cause more damage then letting it dry out. And you could be hitting something important with the heat from the hair dryer. Dropped my phone during a storm, and a 24hr drying period without anything artificial worked. However, I think it probably fried your screen or battery.

Make sure the connections to your monitor and other parts are all set, and if it has a projector port, try using that. If not, than it is busted, sorry.

Good one. You should check if an external screen will work.
No - you damaged the graphics card.
Yes - just the screen controller or connectors.

You can always send it for repairs, it's be cheaper than buying a new one, or attempt repairs yourself (especially if an external monitor will work).

You must always turn it off instantly, same goes with your smartphone and such. You should try and send it to a repair shop, see what they say.

first thing i'd do is hook up the HDMI/VGA out to a monitor to see if anything besides the screen is fried. once you isolate that as an issue, you can get a better idea for what the next course of action is. replacing your screen without knowing whether the other parts function properly is a bad idea.

you probably also need to open it up.. or, at least for me, i don't like knowing it's so sticky inside my laptop.

I suggest you to take out the harddisk from your laptop, and connect it to somewhere else, see whether it will runs.

At least you will get some of your data back.

As noted above the first thing I would do is take out the HD/SSD and grab all your important files.  You don't want some repair shop reading your stuff.  Don't forget to grab your wallet files if they're on there too.

Put the drive back in and see if an external monitor works.  If it doesn't the the laptop is probably good only for parts.  Unless it was a high end laptop it's probably worth only $200 if it was working, being semi dead it's not worth repairing.  Sell it to a ship or eBay for parts.
