Hey guys. So, long story short, a soda got spilled on my laptop last night. This was also at the worst time possible, because I'm currently working on 2 sites, one of which is for my froend's business and needs to get finished and up Asap. Luckily, I had backups of the files, so I'm not completely screwed there. We have a few different, old laptops around the house here. I'm going to have to jump on one to continue immediately in the meantime. However, I'm not sure how clean & safe these computers are. My fiancée's laptop Definitely has some shit adware, at least. I was wondering what you guys knew about antiVirus, everything else software (Malware, adware, Keylogger, etc.). I'm always weary about searching for and downloading antiVirus software, because ironically, many contain malicious objects themselves. Looking for something tried, tested, and true, verified by the community here.

Just download and install AVAST! it is free antivirus of the highest caliber imo. I am using it for couple of years and I have never got any problem with it. No infections and stable, good protective antivir. For free.

I will definitely check into that, I've heard of it here-and-there a few times in the past. Has anybody else had any experience with Avast! here? The ol' lady installed AVG a couple weeks ago on her brother's suggestion. It seems to have caught a couple shit programs, but this BS adware called Playtopus popped back up after I uninstalled it. I can't stand it when working on my site, because it makes certain words underlined, and when clicked pops up shitty ads. I can't stand seeing that crap on something I created, ha.

I'd recommend using Avast!, Comodo Firewall and Keyscrambler (for those pesky keyloggers!)

If you are hell bent upon not paying a penny for the anti-virus, then use Avast + Malwarebytes. But I would just like to remember you that Kasper is available for less than $10.

I use Windows Defender = Malwarebytes. Never had problems, though I am very careful, generally.

Avast! is what you can use for your anti-virus.
I also suggest Malwarebytes for anti-malware.

If you want to go the "Free Only" route, my suggestion is MalwareBytes and Avast. And I'm not giving 2 alternates, I'm suggesting to install both. MalwareBytes Free version is a stand-alone scanner. Avast will take care of real-time mode.

Use windows defender and scan computer with eset online scan once per month! (Be careful to turn off auto-delete because sometimes detectes miners, wallets...) There is a link of eset online scanner: http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/Its free! No installation required (just plugin if you are using crome and firefox, no plugin required if you use internet explorer) Have a nice day!

I definitely suggest using a better anti-virus solution such as ESET or Kaspersky.

Windows Defender use to be good/okay but after Microsoft started focusing on other projects (xbox, cloud solutions and such) it has become bad. You can look around the internet about this. Most people use Avast as a free solution, I believe it is among the best. I usually install it on each PC that goes through my hands.
