although i have a 80Mb both ways connection at work, sharing it over WiFi 2Ghz does slow it down to around 20-30Mb or even slower at times, although 5Ghz I had better results, it is best just to 'plugin'!

What do you mean by sharing? Sharing with other people?
I managed to transfer my signal over 400m and still have 1/3 of my speed.

He probably did not have enough bandwidth, he most likely meant that other users were connecting to the same network, thus using up more bandwidth. You must have a good antenna and no blocking walls to transfer it that far, I manage to get 1/100 of my speed just 10-20 meters away from my modem.

Well I bought a custom built metal one for around 50$, I mean 2 of those. One antenna on both ends, it did increase the speed. Initially I had 1/6 (tested with phone and laptop), then I installed an antenna on the receiving end.

It really depends, are we talking about carrier lines (T1/T3), ethernet, fiber, cable, dsl, satellite, etc? Cable/DSL are cheaper than ethernet/fiber, but not nearly as reliable. It's also not symmetric.

It depends on your location. If fibre in the country is very common, it should be pretty low. In Singapore, you can easily get 1GBIT/s for $49. With free setup and a lot of other free things. Competition is too high, everyone mostly use fibre, I hardly see anyone not using fibre here.

I've had that speed before. Websites don't take all that much to load. It's file downloading/uploading where it gets awful.
