Ask wall gone!  Let's see where this goes.  I saw a few large buys just then and the ghost lines are 5k above the current ask line.  The distance to $5 as of right now is 25k BTC.

The last two announced secret rockets were followed by large price drops.

I'd be a bit more circumspect with my use of the words "taking off" and "again" if I were you.

(Note I'm not predicting price I'm commenting on abuse of history and English)

Someone always needs a fresh group of buyers to sell into their bids.  I'm sure these forums are liberally used to move the price to the advantage of certain parties on a regular basis.  Heck, if I had thousands of bitcoins I know I would  Cheesy

I believe there is a secret rocket taking off again. Lots of small buying over the last 24hrs and basically no serious selling. Ask walls are being eaten away slowly but surely. Leads to me believe that a larger buy could be close. Not that it will necessarily lead to anything big, we might still be stuck close to $5 for a while.

Denarium closing sale discounts now up to 43%! Check out our products from here!

On that point...

is there any way to find, for given division of time, what the total volume of sells and total number of buys was?

I'm defining buy and sell to be "accepted a limit offer from the book" to distinguish them from each other -- buys always equal sells in reality.

I ask because it's perfectly possible to get a massive sell, leaving the asks miles above, and then a tiny buy and the charting sites show it as a green bar making the volume for that period look like it was "huge buy".  To be honest, I'm not sure the current volume bars should be coloured at all.

I'd like to be able to see both volumes separately -- those that move the price up, and those that moved the price down.

Then become an exchange.  You might be able to estimate by comparing orders to your local copy of the orderbook as they come in, but it won't be precise because your orderbook will usually be slightly behind the real book.

The market's been acting quite funny lately.  This is one of the few times that I'd say I'm completely clueless as to which direction we're headed.  It feels like we've been at a tipping point for about 2 weeks.

That being said, I got the trigger finger ready, but my bullishness is wavering at the moment.

Yeah.. the herd will probably move that way. Just like the TradeHill shutdown didn't involve any end-user losses, Linode's screwover of slush/faucet/bitcoinica/(who else?) doesn't look like it'll hit end users either... but the publicity is bad.

The worry for traders is that there's now somebody with at least 13,000BTC who probably would prefer having USD.  And it's not really the 13,000 known stolen BTCs that's troubling.  It's that they've probably nabbed a lot more than that.

I don't have enough information to class that as 'probable'.  The services that were hit, had to have accessible coins for 'hot-wallet' purposes.  Any other large services would probably already have reported it, and private wealthy bitcoiners would surely have their wallets encrypted.

Would it be ironic if this person did throw them on the market just for the win, setting off trade indicators at an already sensitive time, causing market action?

Someone just sold a few thousand btc...and this board is eerily quiet.

EDIT: lol it looks suspiciously like 13k btc were just sold.
