The United States Anti-Vaccination Movement is composed of a variety of individuals ranging from former doctors who should know better, to semi-celebrities who have no medical training, to anti-government conspiracy theorists who distrust anything that the government says. They all hold onto the mistaken belief that autism is caused by receiving childhood vaccines. In 2007 there was an increase in celebrities promoting anti-vaccination rhetoric. Because of their celebrity status they appeared on several television shows and published multiple books advising parents not to vaccinate their children. This has led to an increase in the number of vaccine preventable illnesses as well as an increase in the number of vaccine preventable deaths. http://www.jennymccarthybodycount.com/Anti-Vaccine_Body_Count/Home.htmlAnother article: http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/04/06/anti-vaccine-movement-is-giving-diseases-a-2nd-life/7007955/Recent measles outbreaks in New York, California and Texas are examples of what could happen on a larger scale if vaccination rates dropped, says Anne Schuchat, the CDC's director of immunizations and respiratory diseases. Officials declared measles, which causes itchy rashes and fevers, eradicated in the United States in 2000. Yet this year, the disease is on track to infect three times as many people as in 2009. That's because in most cases people who have not been vaccinated are getting infected by others traveling into the United States. Then, Schuchat says, the infected spread it in their communities. A bit harsher one: http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2014/03/20/thanks-to-anti-vaxxers-mumps-are-back-what-s-next.htmlProbably a lot of the members on this board are fathers already , and some are thinking on having a child... What was your choice / what is going to be? I'm pro vax.

Anti-Vaccinators are idiots. There are enough those clowns in Russia, I sometimes like to troll them on their boards. Their blind faith is amazing. http://science-freaks.livejournal.com/2405186.htmlHowever, it's not funny sometimes... Especially when child dies due to diphtheria.

This kind of thing is precisely why I think children should be given the vote and be allowed to make their own major decisions in life like whether they have vaccines or not, I couldn't even make up a better reason than this, these people are definitely too stupid to be having children, I'm generally open minded but doctors are one of the few people in this world you should really pay attention to.
Fair enough if they don't want to get vaccinated, seriously, I don't care that much, but when they force their children to go along with their stupid choices then that's when they cross the line.

you can't really force parents to do that.. even if it's the right thing. besides, if kids had their own choice, i'm sure most would rather.. not.

I'm generally open minded but doctors are one of the few people in this world you should really pay attention to.
This is bad advice. You shouldn't just blindly listen to what they have to say. GPs in general don't really know that much at all. They do very little research into the drugs they easily throw at you and only tend to only know the bare minimum of the symptoms of common diseases. I always question them in depth when they try give me stuff and 9/10 they can't answer my questions satisfactorily, nor do they even know or understand the mechanism of action in most cases.

I don't think most adults should be given the vote never-mind kids. I didn't have most of my jabs as a small child as I was pretty scared of needles so I refused to have most of them up until about high school. Of course a lot of kids wont voluntarily choose to have them.

Forget about voting, nobody except the medical staff can have any right to vote here. Vaccination should be forced for everybody who don't have any specific contraindications, because collective immunity allows us to protect unvaccinated people from getting infection.
It's not a place for the "democracy", because it's about survival. Only massive and forced vaccination was able to exterminate such deseases as polio and variola. The same is correct for measles, rubella and many other infections.

Although I see some different opinions about the right to choose and others I am glad to hear that people here are pro-vax.
To be honest I was expecting a few nuts to come and claim that vaccines are the way cia is trying to control us. Or the Illuminati.

I know someone here in the UK, that refused to vaccinate her kids for MMR, after the whole media circus claiming a link to autism (if you actually look at the pitiful "studies" and how the media was reporting it, it's truly abhorrent).
But then again she also gives her kids homeopathic remedies. If only the media gave more of a shit about educating people, and less about selling scare stories...

The truth is often inbetween. These ridiculous bird flu/swine flu campaigns back then have seriously damaged the reputation of the state-industrial-pharma complex even more.
Bitcoiners are mostly aware of the problems with closed source software, especially concerning wallets.
So if you don't let closed source software on your PC, why do you let substances be injected in your body which are based on closed and private research, often patented, and cannot easily be publicly audited?

Yeah, you're right about some of the flu campaigns, I mean Tamiflu is absolute bullshit (that we waste millions on each year). Something like 75% of the privately-funded trials have been withheld by Roche. Basically they only release the trials which make the drug look good. But vaccines are a bit different to flu drugs. I think most vaccines we're talking about have a lot more evidence that they work.

What is really sad is people believe celebrities and reality TV "stars" before their family doctor. These ignorant people deserve what they and their families get. Maybe we should tie Obamacare to "you don't get Medicaid if you didn't have vaccinations".

I feel really bad for the kids who have to go through this because their parents are too ignorant or paranoid to get them vaccinated. If they are really so concerned with the alleged link between autism and childhood vaccinations, they should continue to vaccinate their kids so that one day future generations won't have to because we will have eradicated the disease.

They want some comfort in knowing that it is something not containing anything other than anti(insert illness) compounds.

Let the parents decide for themselves if they want to vaccinate their children. However, any households that have non-vaccinated inhabitants will be immediately relocated into a non-vaccinated quarantine region of Death Valley where they will be free to live the remainder of their lives in smug indignant ignorance.

I just wanted to chime in here and state that this community has a lot of very intelligent people here, with some well researched and formed opinions, but I have found this crowd to be exceedingly ignorant in regard to medical issues.

Even if they get banned from it there's nothing stopping them from sneaking on a phone and getting a free wi-fi hotspot etc. even more so now with Bitcoin you'll inevitably hear stories about them buying stuff with Bitcoin right under their parents' noses.
