I'm not interested in buying any accounts. Just curious, where did you get this accounts? Are this hacked accounts? bought? or it is yours originally?

If they're hacked he's probably not going to tell you that is he? People just usually build them up theirselves to sell on or just sell their old alt accounts etc. Some even buy others accounts to re-sell.

I saw some sellers advertising they have a way to prove they own the account.

Maybe the seller will sign a message "The account xxx is sold to yyy on date zzz" with an address the account has been using?

I can imagine that if an account with significant notoriety has been hacked and/or sold, the original owner could verify his identity with the board and reclaim it.

This sort of thing enables scammers, Bitcointalk needs a rule to stop this.

Very much agree.

Also, beware of escrow.ms.

What do you mean by this? Though I haven't used his service, AFAIK, escrow.ms has been providing pretty good services.

What rule would that be? Stupid people enable scammers. Use escrow and you won't get scammed. And you don't need to buy an account to scam when you can just create a new one. Should we ban the creation or new accounts as well?

Also, beware of escrow.ms.

It's quite simple; don't trust people based on their forum activity or trust ratings (because people buy accounts!). Use escrow.

Making rules enables scammers as people then think they're safe.

What could be an ownership proof for accounts created from scratch? The forum doesn't even send an confirmation email.

You can resell an account, but there is no guarantee that the reseller didn't bought an hacked account.

You could probably sign an address from one that was posted early on by the account. As long as the post wasn't edited this would be pretty good proof the account was created by you and definitely not hacked.

You know whats funny is that theymos lets this shit happen knowing that at least 2 out of very 10 accounts is going to goto someone whos gonna try and scam people with something like.

Good feedback, lot of trust, buy from me it's safe.

yes people should use better judgement all the ime but the fact is that theymos can try to prevent most of this from happening but doesnt seem to really care even though yes i could be wrong but it doesnt seem likely.

Either way people, don't ever buy / trade accounts because it always comes back to you somwhow even if you mean well and just want a nice account to get a legit business or w/e goin.

To be decided...

Do you have official stats on those figures or have you just made them up to suit your argument? I think it's safe to say the vast majority of accounts are sold solely for signature campaigns and you don't need to buy an account to scam as you can do that just fine with a newbie account. A little bit of feedback shouldn't mean you can toss all judgement out of the window and throw your money around willy-nilly (though sold accounts rarely have any positive feedback - especially not trusted feedback). Use escrow and you should be fine. The reasoning behind the staff letting accounts be bought or sold is because they can't really stop it and letting it happen out in the open lets everyone know that it does indeed happen.

Enables scammers? How?

Why would you be able to scam with a higher activity account with neutral trust rating?

Higher activity = You've spent a longer time on that account on the forum

High activity =/= trustworthy

Just because you sat by your computer for a few minutes every 2 weeks for a few months / years doesn't mean you're a trustworthy person, meaning it'd be just as easy to scam without buying an account.
