Hi guys!

I read alot about this, and tried a bunch of the stuff suggested but in the end, the solutions given don't seem to work for me.

My current HIS Radeon 4670 doesn't display in cgminer, guiminer or the bitminter client as a valid device.
from what I read it's because it doesn't have OpenCL, but i read that a bunch of people got this to work and are now happily mining away

Here's all my versions http://puu.sh/9Dbag/2715ac5073.jpg

Thanks for the help in advance, if you need any extra information just ask and I'll do my best, thanks Smiley

GPU mining has not been profitable for over a year now (maybe not quite that long but close to a year)

My advice is to not bother with GPU mining

try it with the x11 or x13 scrypt my old compute 1.0 6870 actually mines those faster than my new cards. Its worth a shot at least since you already have it. But for bitcoins no don't even bother you will lose money may get 1 dollar worth of bitcoin for 10 dollars worth of power. Yes its really that bad or worse even.

You would mine much less bitcoin for 10 worth of power.

The issue with mining all those alt coins is that they are very new and volatile so it is hard to predict your profitability

Is it really possible to mine altcoins on an old Radeon 4xxx series? Are these new algorithms really made to work on slower cards?

I have a HD 4850 and I can't imagine mining anything on it, or am I wrong?

Are X11 and X13 specialised for cpus and older gpus or something?

Try mine a new alt coin but you're wasting your time trying to mine bitcoin. There's a whole subforum to mining altcoins so check that out.

Agree with previous post regarding profitability not really being there anymore for GPU mining.  If you have free or near free electricity you might want to check out one of the X11 or X13 coins, possibly Keccak (maxcoin), or a scrypt-n coin (vert).  Good luck.

TBH, unless you have free electricity, I don't see any point mining altcoins with your old 4670 as the hashrate would be very low...

To be honest, as more ASICs are developed over time, old ASICs and GPU are not profitable any longer. Not worth it to waste your time, the best you can do is to mine those new alt coins.

I'm actually mining POT (potcoin) on suremine.com and I already got the pc mining on cpu but it's single core so only gets like 1.5khps
It already has the card in it and since it's going to be switched on for cpu mining I thought trying to mine on the gpu would be a good idea; the electricity in my flat is free, also
With the hardware I have I wouldn't dream of mining bitcoin, but if it's possible to get this card running at all I'd really love the help!

Thanks for all your responses so far, what a helpful community Smiley

You could use something like this. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=623409.0
But, I am not sure if your HD4670 works with it.

FREEE?? Why don't you buy some hardware and mine it in your flat? Buy some cheap ASICs with good efficiency and you can mine in your flat for free.

move to asics.

I can't afford an ASIC miner, or find a decent one that can do scrypt at a sensible speed
I'm mining for fun and out of interest, I'd like to be able to get up 4670 Smiley

It may be reasonable to GPU-mine some ASIC-resistant coins (like x11 and x13), especially as OP has free electricity.

Trying to save up Smiley but for now I'm trying to take advantage, hence the wanting to mine on a 4670

It's every miner's dream to have free electricity, good luck on saving up. There are plenty of coins which are ASIC resistant , choose carefully. There are a lot of step by step guide to setup your miners.

No success with sgminer

any way to spoof/force it to use it?
It's quite a nice little card, can run DotA2 and Counter-Strike:Global Offensive okay
as you know I got free electricity, so i wanna take advantage of it as much as i can

I don't think your card supports opencl calculations, try using applications like CPU-z to check for compatibility.
