help setting up multiple antminer S1's...

Hey guys fairly new to the BTC game... been trying to set up my miners today (8 in total) and for the life of me i cannot get them to get on DHCP as opposed to the static configuration they are at now... not sure what other info i can post other then i went thru pretty much all the tutorials especially the doge one where i was supposed to change the ip address on my laptop to 192.168.1.254 etc... the current ip address i am working with is 192.168.2.x... any help at all is greatly appreciated...

Simple - leave them with fixed IP, there are good reasons why they selected fixed IP.  Simply set each Antminer with a different fixed IP and don't waste your time with DHCP.  Make sure that the fixed IP values that you allocate are within your router's IP range and that there are no other devices in your network that use them.  If your router has a 'pre-allocation table' (many Netgear routers do), then you can also use that to prevent future clashes (such as in case one antminer was off, a new device on the network was given the Antminer's IP, then there is a clash and the antminer fails to mine).
DHCP seems more flexible, but there are downsides - a DHCP lease has finite time, when it expires your connection may suffer, shifting IP addresses are more difficult to monitor (by AntMonitor https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=596178.0, or even by the basic web gui).

that would indeed be easier but i cant even access the config page... i tried by accessing 192.168.2.99 on my network and 192.168.1.99 when going thru doge's tutorial nothing seems to work

What is your S1's IP Address? 192.168.1.99? Then set your computer IP to 192.168.1.1 and connect directly to your S1, never have a problem with that.

so if my network is sitting on 192.168.2.x i need to manually change it right? what would i put for default gateway? anything for dns?

After you save this, plug your ethernet cable directly to your S1. Wait for a second and type 192.168.1.99 in your browser. And voila! It's connected.

EDIT: Change your computer's IP first. Then you can chang your S1's IP to 192.168.2.XXX one by one so you don't need to change your computer's IP everytime you wanna connect to the S1.

The idea is that you connect your laptop directly to one Antminer S1 (no router, don't need to change the rest of your network).  That laptop is changed temporarily to a fixed address in the 192.168.1.* area (replace the * with any number in the 1-254 range that does not clash with any S1 intended addresses), Configure the first S1 (if your network is at 192.168.2.*, set the first Antminer to something like 192.168.2.191) after you finish with that one set the second one to another fixed address within your router's range (say 192.168.2.192) etc.  Now you can connect all your ants to your network and change all the other settings (pool parameters) through the network.  (after you are done with the laptop, of course set it back to DHCP).

hey guys thanks again for all the tips... finally got the miners up and running... one thing tho how come im not seeing anything under miner status? everything is blank and keeps saying no values to display... also for slush's pool do u guys use the stratum url or the api...?

Ok, if you are not seeing values, then you do not have your pools setup properly or the miner program has not started.  As to the DHCP issue, once you have your S1 on your network path, it's real simple to turn on DHCP. Everyone has their own view of benefits, but I've run over 50 on and off this past year without issues. I wouldn't recommend the wireless though.  Although some have had success with it too.

i know my pool info is right... i logged into slush's pool to get my worker id and password... i've tried using both urls and still nada... how long does it take to start up...?

I use
stratum.bitcoin.cz:3333

in the pool configuration screen  (Antminer then displays "http://stratum.bitcoin.cz:3333" in the status screen).  On initial power-up or reboot it takes a while for the status screen to show anything (abt 1 minute).
I hope that you got your antminers going by now
