no one keep 100 btc in a core wallet without a backup .. well i cannot store more than 0.1 without backup and you .. 100 btc oh man.. shit. If you read the posts, you will see it is just a scam attempt, so you probably don't need to feel sorry for the "wallet owner".

He can only try to crack password randomly with hints of that password he got, I think there is no other solution.

guys here another update about them CHECK IT OUT if you care , you can try to brute force the password
here's the addy : 12Mnc41fYtFkSir5RCHYv82cq8FMuYHmm5 the forgotten password : quml31 qum-31 31quml
if it's true , 100 BTC = $ 58.000 he can try password combination that he remembered if it can't open, then he should forget it and take a lesson from that experience Or just never understood how bitcoin worked exactly, or lack of preparing oneself.
yeah maybe, lack of preparing is most possible situation too bad he lost 100 BTC because he didn't make any backup from his wallet

This smells of scam.
It's probably not even his own wallet. He's trying to sell something that he doesn't own. He didn't even steal it.
Would be funny to try that with a physical object. Find an expensive bicycle parked somewhere and try to sell it claiming you lost the keys to the lock.

it make sense if he stolen that account and forgot the key but if it is indeed a small possibility he could forget because he's not a small amount, normally we will often look to just make sure we account funds were included in safety

That wallet .dat probably just doesn't belong to that address that's all.

he can try password combination that he remembered if it can't open, then he should forget it and take a lesson from that experience
If he can remember part of the password, he may ask others to brute force the password for him. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=85495.0 (Not endorsing the service) But it won't work if the "unknown" part of your password is too long. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=85495.msg4401257#msg4401257It's not feasible to guess completely random passphrases. Here are how many days it it will take with one CPU: passphrase length lowercase alphanumeric any character 1 0.00 0.00 0.00 2 0.00 0.00 0.00 3 0.00 0.03 0.10 4 0.05 1.71 9.43 5 1.38 106.03 895.58 6 35.75 6574.10 85080.08 7 929.61 407594.28 8082607.59 8 24169.80 25270845.55 767847721.40 9 628414.78 1566792424.34 72945533532.94 10 16338784.22 97141130308.84 6929825685629.39
Even with a large budget (thousands of CPUs or GPUs) you could only do 6 or 7 characters. It's only possible to crack a passphrase when you know most of it and the unknown part is constrained. That's why I have so many custom tailored scripts in this thread - each targets a narrow pattern which could be identified.

Too bad for him, 100 BTC is huge money that might change his life maybe he can offer bounty for someone who can brute force that passphrase, if not long characters

Indeed, I do remember reading a local news long time ago, that someone seek help from a locksmith to get in "his own house" after "leaving his key inside in the morning".

It seems to me that screenshot is a fake and that guy is a troll.
Most likely that's the reallity, but if it's true it's hard to get your wallet recovered without proper backups. I had pains to recover my wallet, and it was only 4 BTC at that time.

With his wallet.dat, you can see his addresses and tx history. But without the passphrase, you can't spend the bitcoin or get the private keys.
