I have been looking for a few different ATM's to sample.

I found this one tonight, which is a fully operational, opensource bitcoin ATM for under $1000 USD.

http://projectskyhook.com/

I am very interested in running a bitcoin atm to be able to introduce new users to bitcoin.

A representative from www.bitcoinatm.com sent me this link regarding the licensing requirements and the definition in court (Texas) of what a money transmitter is and is not.

See here;

http://blog.atlantabitcoin.com/texas-guidance-on-bitcoin-atm-operation-is-kind-of-a-big-deal/

"If the machine never involves a third party, and only facilitates a sale or purchase of Bitcoins by the machine’s operator directly with the customer, there is no money transmission…"

Im about ready to start.  Are there any other good options available that I am not aware of, that are shipping in the immediate future?

One thing that I would want improved on the skyhook atm, which would probably be fairly simple to do, is add Litecoin/USD exchanges too.

This is really cool...do we know when they are shipping? It looks pretty legitimate and if it turns out to be I am definitely buying one and setting one up at my workplace Cool

Also, are there any reviews or PR on this yet? This is the first time I've heard about it.

Ive watched several video demonstrations on youtube.
There is also a multi-currency crypt atm that accepts dozens of fiat currencies and dozens of crypto currencies.  But it costs over $14k
http://www.bitcoinatm.com/

I would like to buy one of these Skyhook open source ATM's and add at least Litecoin to it.  I imagine that even if I couldn't tackle the task, there are a few developers here on bitcointalk that could handle that.

Too bad the regulations on these are insane if you want to put it anywhere public-y.

I've learned a little bit about the regulations, and quite honestly it all depends on the state.  Some states are worse than others.
If you review that link that I posted earlier you can see how some states have very low requirements for this like Texas.

I wish someone here in Manila, Philippines would get one of these babies and start running a physical exchange. That'd drive adoption here over the roof!

PS: I'm willing to contribute if anyone here wants to install one here in the Phils.

I've watched the vids on Skyhook, and heard only good things.  I'm going to install one here in Indy.

I'm hoping they follow Texas' lead re: regs (since it is more like a Vending machine than an ATM).

The ATM looks small, how much cash can it hold? I think it belongs in a cafe or a small shop where people can buy and play around with bitcoin. Cash is emptied at the end of the day. It is never meant to be in the open public.

$999 is still a huge price tag, are they actually profitable? How much bitcoin does the ATM need to sell to break even?  Undecided

I can't tell you from actual production experience, since we have not yet opened.  We open in about 6 hours for the first time ever.
I will keep you updated as this project progresses.

We decided to take the lead from; Kieronbm  and start a crowd funding project for our business.

Quote
We are ready to open!  This happens TODAY  October 29th 2014!
We have been working on this shop for months.  We have everything now that we need, except we still do not have a sign for our building.

This campaign is to raise coin for a backlit sign for our building.

We had a sign made, but the landlord would not approve of it.  So now we need to raise $3800 USD to get this sign made and installed.

Some of the features of our business and how it relates to the crypto community.

1.  We accept bitcoin and litecoin for all purchases and we offer a 10% discount for paying with coin or cash.
2.  We offer a Project Skyhook ATM to give access to people in our local community to an easy bitcoin procurement method
3.  We print a newspaper and distribute it to 3 states currently.  We are in Idaho, Utah and Wyoming so far.  Many of our articles are about bitcoin as well as responsible capitalism.  We have articles about many liberty related issues.
4.  We sell CBD infused hemp oil, which I believe we are the first in Idaho to do so  (it is legal)

This is our pre-opening walkthru video that I made tonight.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oy-hxEDyDfw

I have put my heart and soul into this.  I have spent most of my savings on opening this.
We would like this to be wildly successful, and we hope that you will back us!

For everyone that backs us, we will send you a discount coupon for our website, and we also accept bitcoin through our website via coinbase.  This coupon will give you 20% off all merchandise in our store!

See what we have added to our store so far (more to come) @  www.clovisstar.com -

 See more at: https://bitcoinstarter.com/projects/1102#sthash.A95KUcEU.dpuf

When the crowd funding invitation is approved by the admin, this will be our URL
https://bitcoinstarter.com/projects/1102

If anyone wants to send in some fuel for the fire we are building, to promote and demonstrate bitcoin, please send to:

Just watched your vid - good luck on your store! Interesting that your store is similar to the a location I've gotten permission from the owners on ("Vapor World").

For those who might be interested in the skyhook itself, it's located at 3:24.

How do you need permission for anything from Vapor World?   We get some of our stuff from them, but Ive never heard of needing any permission for a location from them?

We've had other retail stores in the past.  We had a T-shirt shop in Spokane on Division street directly across the street from Home Depot.

But this location is the most premier yet.   Im drowning in startup costs, but it's a blast!

Thanks for checking it out!

Oh I see!  Very cool!   Are they in Ohio?

I think they may be one of my suppliers.

I've been putting my eye into bitcoin ATMs for a while and Skyhook looks like a winner to me. The only thing that bothers me is that it's so small and light that I fear it might get stolen. How hard/easy/expensive was it to secure physically?
