I feel very unlucky. My system has been cranking out 2600 khash/sec for more than 16 days so far, and still not a single block generated. I am not going to buy a lottery ticket any time soon.

I have a feeling that GPU (OpenCL) users will rapidly crowd out CPU users, due to the apparent large advantage of OpenCL bitcoin generation on modern GPUs.

Perhaps if a stable OpenCL client comes out  

I've got 7 year old celeron machines generating blocks, so speed isn't really king for coin generation as much as just luck and having a lot of systems to try

I was at 1200khash/sec, and then i realized that I should upgrade from 0.3.0 to 0.3.7. Now i'm at 2240khash/sec!

I was very lucky to find a block within a few days of running bitcoin.

I went from being unlucky to just highly improbable.

I've got about 15,000 khash/sec running altogether, and generated absolutely nothing for over two weeks.
Then, in the span of 12 hours, one of my slower (linux) machines found THREE blocks.  Go figure.

It's stuff like this which I've also experienced that makes me think perhaps other factors have more of an influence than they should. Bitcoin superstition, it's always got me questioning my client.

Yeah, I went 2 weeks with nothing and just about gave up on generating anything. Then claimed 2 blocks in under 6 hours. It's all about averages.

Hi all. My machine using CPU alone was running at around 4300 khash/sec with all 8 cores. After reading up on the net I realised that your GPU is way better at doing the calculations required to make bitcoins. Follow the link below for a step by step guide on how to use a bit miner to work with Bitcoin in server mode. I have a NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450 and once set up Im averaging 34000 khash/sec plus the CPU rate. Your video card does need to be 2-3 years old or newer to have CUDA/OpenCL features.

Make sure you dont ignore the about showing file extensions in Windows 7/Vista so you dont end up with a bitcoin.conf file that is actually a bitcoin.conf.txt file as I did.
