Schmidt has gone on record as saying that implementing NFC is complicated because of all the players involved.  don't ask me to link that video interview right now.  I'm on my phone.

Heres a list of all the players with their hands in the pie so far which obviously drives up the costs; first data, Citigroup, mastercard, visa, verifone, sprint for starters.

Please add to this list if you know others.

One good argument for why Google will be tempted to add Bitcoin to its ecosystem, is that it would hurt Facebook/FB Credits considerably. Google+ needs to throw everything it can at the Facebook behemoth, and undermining the new FB currency with an open p2p currency would be significant.  AFAIK, Google isn't intending to make a new currency, but rather a super-useful wallet system. And what better way to make a wallet useful than to accept the currency of tomorrow, today. Smiley

i'm mystified why Schmidt called p2p currencies illegal.  there's absolutely no jurisdiction anywhere that has classified it as such.  it was careless.

i think strategically they ought to adopt payment with Bitcoin thru Google Wallet as a parallel service to USD's obviously b/c of the decreased cost structure.  they could just claim they're using an established unaffiliated currency and are not supporting Bitcoin itself in any way. the argument would be similar to not doing away with the USD just b/c everyone uses it to buy drugs with.

yes, this may be construed as throwing down the gauntlet but as i argued before tech giants like Google might be able to get away with it.

google wallet should have a plugin system for all kinds of "payments", "vouchers", "coupons" and other forms of digital "commodities". then, bitcoin spinner will be happy to adopt it's client to fit into this api.

Paxum's problem wasn't regulatory; it was political.

this is correct ^^ could be a game-changer for Google to challenge  F.B in this area.

I'm bumping this old thread, because I'm curious if anyone knows what the chances are we can convince Google to accept Bitcoin as a payment option for their wallet. If they do so, the whole world can suddenly buy apps in the Google Play Store and make in-app purchases, which would give Google a significant edge over Apple.

I know personally many people who don't buy apps in the Play Store because of their requirement to use a credit card. Since Whatsapp will soon start charging for their services, many users are wondering how to pay for this. It's nice to be able to buy pizzas with our beloved digital currency, but the mobile world is where Bitcoin can really make a difference.
