what is the "eye".  and why is it a "swimming pool"?

is it Olympic sized and what qualities does Rand al'Thor
that the proper Dragon does not offer (e.g. Christian Alvestam).

It's been a while since I've read that book. But yes it is olympic sized, and Egwene turns out to be a gold medalist swimmer. While Rand cheers her on from the side lines.
