It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.

Given a perfect mining environment where none of the cards go down, cables fry, cards overheat, mobo slags or PSU blows. And you keep it running 24/7/365, your wife never notices that your project room is at 118 degrees in the dead of winter, you stay sane with the sound of all those fans blowing at 100% 24/7.

And that you can afford the electricity, or have a really long extension cord to the neighbor's house to keep it all humming along.

But, yes, around 1.5-1.75 btc per day is about right. Merge Mine it and you might even tweak up past 2 btc.

Liquid cooling solves most of the first problems you mentioned.

Living in an apartment that pays for your electricity solves the next one.

I want to figure out if I can make this more profitable.

I wouldn't mind running 100 rigs x 2 gigahashes per second

But you need to know your power cost.  You can easily mine at a lost if your MH/Watt is bad.  More gigs mining at a lost means more losses.

I PLAN on using this case: http://www.overclock.net/forum/newestpost/1144824 and liquid cooling from koolance on top. I'll probably only get 1 monitor and share between comps, am planning on buying/making up to 10 of these rigs.

Am I missing anything?

You don't need a HDD.  Just run BAMT off a USB stick.
And 2G of RAM will do.
EDIT:  And if this is just for mining, your CPU is an overkill.  Just run a sempron.

if you are in an apartment then you are going to hit the limit on a single circuit at some point.  maybe three to five of those rigs at best.

Alright. I found myself a better motherboard, capable of 6 video cards, should be noteworthy! I will not be replacing the cpu though, it's cheap enough at $250.

With 6 high end video cards, I am sure to be way more than 2.1 Ghash... is there some way for me to figure out how many gigahashes I can produce with these 6 cards before buying?

Okay I am a little disenchanted after doing some calculations... This rig costs $4,329 and only makes about $9,000 a year... If I were to multiple this by 6(or 30k... which is how much rigbox costs)... it would cost 30k and only make $54,000/year.

NOW RIG BOX by butterfly labs costs 30k, produces 50.4 gigahashes and makes $121,000/year.

OBVIOUSLY making your own rig is not the best option, does anybody else agree with me?

Note BFL has yet to ship them, there's no warranty (IIRC), they're unproven (may be over-heating, and if it fails, you're out $30k as opposed to paying $15 in shipping to replace a gfx card), and likely will have pretty darn low resale value once Bitcoin mining rewards start becoming less significant. Along with that though, you won't be making either of those amounts per year. Bitcoin block rewards will be halving in ~9 months.

Your non-FPGA components aren't cost-efficient for mining either. You really only need one core CPU, 2gb RAM, a basic MoBo, a $10 USB stick to toss Linux on, and 7970s are more for $/W than $/MH performance.

You should probably also consider your landlord may kick you out if you're using >$200/month in electricity. :x

It's not pool-specific. Bitcoin will halve the block reward from 50 coins to 25 coins in ~9 months.
