So I recently was talking about bitcoin with a friend.
And he was telling me that a friend of his (who developed a short lasting bitcoin app) was contacted by Amazon a couple months ago, who apparently wanted to hire him.
He refused the offer, but it seems they were hiring him as a "bitcoin software specialist".

I don't personally know the guy so couldn't ask more questions (it seems they didn't tell him much anyway).

This could be huge, no?
Or could Amazon simply want someone to tell them if it's worth it or not to accept btc?

Thought it was worth sharing!
Cheers  Cool

Interesting insight.  Provides more support for the theory that Amazon will try to make their own coin maybe?

I have a friend whose cousin's roommate's friend works at Google. He told me last week that Google is working on integrating bitcoins into their eco-system.

This is awesome!
If Google and Amazon get in, and we already know eBay is about to get on board... That would mean everyone getting to know what bitcoin is in a matter of months!

I can't see Amazon leading the way somehow. If and when BTC bordered on ubiquitous then them not accepting it would be as silly as rejecting Visa.

Hmm I don't think they'll lead the way either.
But they might be getting all set to follow when some braver company (ebay?) gets in.

Thanks for the heads up, I had noticed it Wink
I was more answering to ReBoRn, plus I had heard rumors, kind of had forgotten about them. Like this:

This is just like the whole Facebook Credits thing.
It might be good for games and apps as they say, but no one would use as currency something as centralized and associated to a single company as that.

I cannot for the life of me understand the value of an Amazon Coins type system.

It's centralized, like the dollar
It's pegged to the dollar / 100

... Why not just use .. umm. dollars?!  Huh

Sure, agreed, it's great for Amazon... but what does the consumer gain? It's just like having an intangible gift card surely?

They incentivize the use of Amazon Coins by offering discounts for using them. I haven't actually looked into it, but I do remember reading that.

Now that newegg is in, Amazon should rethink their position.
