That could really be our "in" for major supermarket chains and gas stations etc. It would not be ideal to have to use the mastercard system to spend bit coin in those places but it would be a nice way to get a toe hold.

That is a pretty enlightened idea. Any biller could do just that and save a ton of fees in the process.

This news is big.
If implemented, bitcoin will suddenly gain a huge percentage of global payment share.

That's a good damn idea! It would be more likely that they would make their customers pay online if they wanted to pay with bitcoin as the exchange rate can vary widely over the 45 day period that people have to pay their credit card bills. It should also be noted that Mastercard does not actually lend people money, the issuing banks do. As a result people do not pay mastercard directly

That's a good damn idea! Would be very nice to see some kind of implementation along those lines for starters. I don't even care if the option went to their most preferred customers at ver least it is a great start to something that could catch on and be huge if other followed suit..

I am not entirely sure what this is to be honest. I can pay in BTC? How's that any different from a bitcoin debit card? Or can I retroactively pay in bitcoin (at end of month like some are suggesting)?

If they want to stay competitive, they will need to offer QR or similar technology.
