Instead of just you know, holding onto the btc hoping for it to appreaciate, why not invest in ina company or business priced and operated in btc, like on the stock exchange that's opening....around monday.

Cool.  Its like a Ponzi scheme on top of a ponzi scheme.  I love it!

j/k (kinda)

Only some of the shares are *likely* to be ponzi schemes, so you're only partially right.

My wife has been pressuring me for the last month or so to use her investment funds to buy BTC...I kept telling her to wait. Oops.

I did the same. She told me to buy a couple of thousand Euros worth when I first told her about it last year. I was more cautious.  Cry She still keeps pushing me to buy.

Heh. My wife said she wouldn't be okay with me spending more than about $500 on it, so I bought 500 bitcoins at 0.85. Then she said that by $500 she had meant what I already spent on the GPU and PSU. The price was still down at the moment, so I sold a little, waited, and finally exited at a very small net profit (about $20) by selling off the rest.

At this rate I'll be lucky if I ever have 500 bitcoins again.

Maybe you could sell her for 500BTC, I'm sure she has some redeeming qualities.

I told a couple of people I work with...and since I work at a financial institution, that made for some pretty interesting conversation. I managed to get one co-worker to help out when I convinced him that the algorithms we were working on were not, in fact, nuclear launch codes or the like. Told the missus, as well...she keeps an eye on the rig for me. Smiley And a couple of my gamer buddies, who are having serious heat issues. All told, that's like 4 people.

So on Sunday I finally told a relative who works in finance.

To my surprise, his reaction was overwhelmingly positive. He agreed that Bitcoin was a brilliant idea, but said that he won't be investing because high risk investments are just not his thing. Fair enough.

When I told him about the price development of my investment, he told me that I should sell all my BTC immediately.  I didn't take his advice, but it feels good to have "come out" anyhow.

I told my wife about Bitcoin while we were on holiday, and she agreed that I could spend some money on it. I bought a 5870 GPU card, and bought some coins.

I made sure she understood that, although the possible upside was big, it was quite possible that Bitcoin would come to nothing. That way, if it tanks, she won't be too upset.

My teenage daughter was also in the conversation, and she asked all the right questions about the technicalities of the Bitcoin system. I was impressed!

THIS is why I don't want to get married...  Kiss

Well to be fair, assuming both of them work and pool money, decisions like this should be made together (shared income and all that).

If he had a separate bank account with his own spending money in it however, then that would be odd!

When I told her about it she said: I don't get it but anyway what can you buy for it?
I commissioned the awesomely talented guy at http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5770.0 to do a piece for her, which she loved.
She won't trust in the stuff until you can buy chocolate with it tho :-)
