Tagan 1000W - $75 Gigabyte 965P-S3 (4x PCIe) + C2D 4300 with heatsink + 2GB RAM - $55 HDD 80GB SATA - $10 6x extenders - $10 HD 5870 - $150
Not in dollars but I converted it. That was the cheapest I could get, all GPUs I bought were bought for avg. prices, much higher than in US, so they aren't worth mentioning.

I can't go for the cheap cards found here - mine usually go kaput after a couple of months (true story; burnt a new 5870 2 days ago after 3 months 24/7) so i need to have long warranties attached to my cards. That said, my least expensive rig which runs 3 cards costs about $200 excluding the cards. athlon ii cpu = $35 new MSI 870-G45 = $60 new 2gb ddr3 ram = $15 new 650w gold psu = $60 new 500gb drive = $30 new

How much were the cards and what's the hashrate? Grabbed a bunch of sapphire 5850's at $155 apiece, 5870's at $199 if I'm not wrong, and I'm gonna go get some 5830's at $140 later in this week. Poor thing 5850's and 5870's went out of production (at least that's what my local computer shop said) That said, I regularly rma my cards after 4-8 months of mining 24/7 as I run em fairly hard.

Gigabyte H61M-D2P-B3 & Celeron G630 = $50 Microcenter (crazy price mistake, got 2 combos with my friend) 4gb Patriot ddr3 ram = $-10 after rebate at Frys with Pricematch to Newegg Antec Neo Eco 620W psu = $22 after rebate (still waiting on rebate after 4 months) Antec 300 case with all covers removed for better air movement = $5 After rebate (again still waiting on Antec rebate) 40GB SATA with bad sectors (freebie from friend) 2 Sapphire 6870s from Amazon = $300 after rebate
Total hash = 630MH. Total Cost = $360 + ~ $40 in gas driving for parts =~$400 USD
I could put riser on the board for 1x slot but fear it might lead to heat problems since it's in a tight cubbyhole at an office hidden away
I couldn't get any cheap 5xxx cards since I live in CA and so Newegg is automatically off the list due to the crazy sales tax here.

You're the winner so far. That's a crazy good deal for 630MH. Yeah, unfortunately I can't get any more cheap combos from MC. I was thinking of getting one of these: http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0364087 so I wouldn't have to mess with extenders. I miss your old avatar (with the cute girl)

To be honest, I much prefer the 6x5850 rig to the 5x5870 rig. I would trade 5 5870s for 6 5850s any day.

This rig (i posted it in another thread too, don't hate) 1 computer was donated and 2 were found at recycling stations. Motherboards, RAM, HDDskan and CPUs = $0 2 PSUs = $0 1 Corsair 520W = $25 second hand At the point were the picture was taken, they were all mining LTC. Put some GPUs in there now (2 5770s and 2 5830s). Total for all 4 cards is about $450 The rig comes out at about $475,-, and about 1 ghash/s

Not one of my systems, but a system that I helped build for a friend. Even I was amazed how cheap it worked out;
1x ASUS M5A78L-M LX $50 1x Sempron 145 $35 1x 2gb stick DDR3 $10 1x Corsair CX600 600 watt PSU $50 2x 1x-16x risers $9 1x 16x-16x riser $4.50 ----------------------------------------- $158.50
3x Saphire 5830's $330 ===================
Total cost $488 ... does 855 mhash/sec @ 560 watts stock voltage and 875 mhz ...
Only downside is it is a bit greedy on power, nearly 2x my systems ... He told me he got it to do 450 watts recently by reducing the voltage a tad but not clock decrease.
Still ... 450 watts for 855 mhash/sec is high... I'm not sure the 5830 is the best for power.

5830s are incredibly inefficient which is quite ironic because over the summer the rumor was they were one of the most efficient cards available - which turned out not to be true. I dont think they are even profitable anymore for a lot of people
this is the reason you see so many of them for sale all the time

They are have a good speed:price ratio but bad when it comes to speed:power, in summer when it took 2 weeks to make a return on a card nobody cared about power costs.
