Which algorithm is the best?

Hello all,
Which algorithm is the best known nowadays. I see too much coins  popping these days and is difficult to understand on which to rely. Which algorithm provides you the best? Please provide heavy reasons, not because you hold a coin with this algo and want to spread the owrd about it. Please just not advertise your coin Thanks!

that is a mind shatteringly vague question..
best for what ? Crypto ?
And in what respect ? Speed ? security ?
Gimmick ? profitability ?
Real algo's or fake ones like "Proof Of Strength" ?

and bear in mind an algo is ONE hashing algo..
what we all call an algo was back from when Bitcoin and Litecoin each used 1 algo each respectively.
now a days we have gimmick coins that use 15 of them merged together.. pointlessly
and that is algo(s) with an 's"

i like hefty1 algo, because the consumption is less and not because is not optimized(the reason was explained in the official thread, i don't remember now, it could be bullshit, but i want to believe!!) like the "x algo"
