Spot on. I wondered if they detected adblock somehow, and reloaded the window in an anonymous tab without adblock, and the text still appears - they just did a lucky guess, it's static text. (I don't know if it's even possible to detect adblock)

It is very much possible to detect adblock.

It's easy to detect using javascripting. Google about it and you'll find em.

The point of my post was that they seemed not to detect it, but rather to just assume I was using it ... when I tested it without adblock I also saw the same text.

Just checked it out. With some efforts you can do it continuously. But in my opinion the payout rate is too low, doing this would give a payout of around 0.0025 BTC/hour. With the same effort I can make around 0.40 BTC/hour watching videos or 0.05 BTC/hour by just playing SecondLife.
