Group Coin Grading?

Hi! I have some coins I want to grade, from multiple manufactures but I currently live in Spain. As I want to grade about 10 coins; should I send them myself or would it be cheaper to send them to someone in the US for him to grade them?

This could be done but the shipping maybe cost prohibitive. Participants would need to agree on an insurance value of the coins before hand in case anything when wrong with all of that shipping back and forth. It would also take a while if you want to use registered mail instead of USPS express mail.

I wonder if coin dealers get bulk discounts from ANACS or ICG. Anyone know?

You typically only get discounts on bulk submissions (>100 coins) and there's restrictions on how many different coins and denominations you can have per batch.  Then again, if you're a very large dealer with a lot of volume, you can attempt to negotiate better rates, but you have to submit hundreds of coins per year to even have a chance of doing that.

It's cheaper trying to get a bunch of folks together and submitting, because they get you mainly on the number of separate submission forms you have, each of them is a separate cost.  Plus, shipping and insurance to/from is also a lot for single submissions.

It might be easier for you to send them on your own, if you already have an account with direct submission privileges with any of the main TPG's.  If you don't have an account, then it might make more sense trying to piggyback on someone else.

However, the big issue is the international shipping.  It might end up being the same in the end either way, and it's not easy to deal with it.  Lots can also happen in transit, so it's also a big decision on the person submitting because a lot could go wrong they'd be on the hook for.

If we are talking grading of Bitcoins then yes you do get a bulk discount from ANACS.  You will end up paying $19 per coin to be graded (economy service).  I have graded a ton of coins with ANACS (all Casascius) so feel free to ask me questions.  I would be willing to do the bulk grading, but of course the issue is trusting me with your coins.  I have helped quite a few folks get coins graded such as Yankee and others.

I'm assuming you want physical btc/ltc coins graded, and not other world silver/gold coins? If that's the case, then the two top graders, PCGS or NGC, won't grade them. Your best bet is ANACS. I only have an account with PCGS, but I could assist in getting yours graded through ANACS if you cover their grading fees. Their international shipping is rather expensive, so I could help get it shipped back for less.

I have a few of the Silver Wallet Limited Edition (serial numbered) coins on the way. Do you think they'd grade those? It might be kind of cool. If so, you can count me in on a group grading.

Smooth deal, I sent coins to Balzed and he returned them graded before me paying anything. Really recommended.

I thought about this but quickly realized there would be some issues like the ones pointed out here.  I ended up sending in a batch of ten to get the best price per coin but depending on how my LTCs come back I may be up for sending a bunch more in.

Blazed I know at one point you mentioned something about doing a grading guide and I am sure you have more than enough info but just in case I have an ANACS folder I started in a photobucket account...

I sent my coins in a USPS Priority Mail flat rate small box ($5.95) but I am using my personal FedEx account for the return trip.
