Greetings from a boardgame lover!

Hello! I'm new to posting in this forum, but have been lurking for a month or two.  I think I initially read about bitcoin in a forbes article, and thought wow, this sounds like pirate money! Cool! XD

In all seriousness though,  I see the value in accepting bitcoin for doing some freelance illustration, which is where my interests lie.  After I get my portfolio up online, I'll be sure to advertise my skills in the services section.

In the meantime, I thought I'd share one of my projects with the community.  I originally designed Mariopoly for my group of friends, before knowing about Parker Brothers' version of the game.  My version isn't just re-skinned though, it has some slight differences in play (I've included some rules in a zip file).

The zip contains board game, title deeds, mushroom(community chest) and coinbox(chance) cards, 1ups(houses) and castles(motels), and currency.  There's no printout for the player tokens though, so you'll have to be creative with that.

That seems very cool; well done. As for the player tokens, or any other project that may require it, I would suggest you team up with someone with a 3D printer. I'm sure there are quite a few people in this forum that would be willing to help.

yes very nice. My wife has a friend that loves monopoly maybe i can get her to try a new version Any twists in rules?  3d printing is a great idea. Haboro should hire you to do the nintendo edition of monopoly.

Thanks for the 3-d printing idea! I'll keep that in mind for next time.  Didn't realize they were getting cheap enough for home use, that's pretty cool. It would have saved me a lot of time too, as I made another set by hand for my sister.  I ended up using really cheap terracotta modeling clay designed for kids, so it was kinda difficult and frustrating to work with. lol

As for the rules, the goal of the game is still the same.  There are certainly a lot of twists though.  Travelling the board is a bit crazy.  Instead of the railroads you purchase in traditional Monopoly, you use a pipeline network that jumps you around the board depending on what your dice roll is.  That's one of the ways you get into the Beetle Expressway (the diagonal row on the board). There are also numerous cards you get to hold on to, so that you can be a bit more strategic. Stuff like shells, stars, and fireflowers you can use to target the person in the lead and make them lose coins(mario kart style).  Also the board dimensions are a bit different (11 x 10 squares) which might be frustrating for some players. This doesn't bother me at all, but frustrates my husband who gets a bit thrown off by this when moving his token. For example, if you roll a 10 while being on a corner, it doesn't necessarily mean you get to jump to the next corner (you'd go past it on the short side).  Anyhoo, for the full rules, read the text file that I included in the zip file.  If anything doesn't make sense in there or I left something out, I'll be happy to answer any questions you have.

Why not have a tournament with your friends. Make it interesting, and tell them to put up bitcoins per game. "Winner takes all"

Instead of using $ as on your notes, make it Satoshis. 

You could fund this with faucet payments, if they do not have BTC yet, just create wallets for them.

 I'm trying not to advertise, but you should probably try some alt-coins that oriented to start-ups|crowdfunding or business oriented. Not only rely on donations but try to make something bigger. There are some dying cryptos with friendly communities (like Globe) or something still promising - like dolphincoin or swarm... I just mean you have a little chance to be an early adopter and significant player with alternative cryptocoins, not the mainstream bitcoin. but it's always good to accept bitcoin. Digital gold standart ).

That actually sounds like a lot of fun to do.    I love betting on games (do this a lot in Boggle of all games... lol). I'd really like to do something like this, but I've had a hard enough time convincing my husband that bitcoin isn't a scam.  I've offered to send him some bits to play with, but he's really not interested. Maybe he'll warm up to the idea in the future. As for friends, I think I'd just end up seeing a glazed look in their eyes.

Thanks! I really would like to make an original board game when I get the time. As it is now, I have a bad habit of starting projects that only get half finished, so I'm trying to finish those up first.  I'll try to take a look into the alt-coins as you suggest, though I'm not really concerned about being an early adopter. Ideally I would just like to do some side-work for some coin.

I'm under the impression that there are some affordable 3d scanners out there, but I haven't really looked into it yet to be honest. On the other hand, you have plenty of models you can download from the net, in sites like thingiverse, for example:

there should be a boardgame that can incorporate betting/bitcoin/altcoins into it somehow... this would be quite hawt... like monopoly where each person puts up the same ante say 0.05... get the default set of 'cash'... then play to timer, first to a $ amount, or first to hotel... winner gets all bets

Not buying that you had never heard of Monopoly before. Far too many similarities.  there is also hundreds if not thousands of different types of monopoly, you had to have known. 

As for anyone that says Monopoly isn't fun.  They've obviously not played after a few beers or taken it serious enough.  My g.f. and I play it with my mother often.  My mother is ruthless when it comes to playing.  The games can get pretty heated.

Thanks for the links to the models, they certainly would work very well. Are different colours available in 3-d printing?  Or would I have to paint them afterwards?

I admit that Monopoly isn't the most intense board game, but I find it to be very inclusive (it's a happy medium between something like Axis & Allies and Candyland).  It's a simple game to decide on in a large group of friends with varying interests.  Anyhoo, it was my hope that the twists would make it more fun to play, or as others have said you can turn it into a drinking game.  Anytime someone passes go, you take a shot.  That would get kinda dangerous really quickly though!

XD  I was specifically referring to Mariopoly.  I had not seen this version in stores before.  Some friends of mine had talked about making up their own versions of Monopoly and this is what I came up with a while ago.

There are a lot of reasons I won't be marketing this in the future so you won't be able to buy it.  If you really would like to play it, I have all the pdfs in the zipped file that I linked to in OP. No worries. I quite enjoy it too and agree it gets fun with the strategy of trading/playing politics. If you're only playing with two people it becomes boring really fast though.  This happened to my husband and I when we were stuck in a small town for a weekend with no internet access & rainy weather.  All we had available for games was Possumopoly (The Red Green Show version of the game).  Was fun at first, but got old really fast. lol
