The block chain is the main innovation of Bitcoin. It is the first distributed timestamping system.

Before you buy anything, you should take a look at a mining calculator (eg. https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/calculator).
Please note that bitcoin difficulty adjusts every 2016 blocks (about 13 days), and your daily return will change accordingly. Smiley

profit depends on bitcoin price, mining difficulty, hardware cost

use the above calculator with your numbers and you can get an idea about your profit

Profit does not depend on bitcoin price.  If you're depending on the price you could simply buy the BTC directly and wait on it.

Profit depends on mining more BTC during the useful life of the miner than the cost of the miner (in terms of BTC). Almost every miner available will be a loss.

Even if Bitcoin goes to $10k USD you will still be at a loss considering you could have received more coins buying them than mining.

This is even with the consideration of free electricity.

free power = 1000 watts ?

free power = 2000 watts ?

you can buy a 3  s-3's      for 2.2btc or about  1408 usd

you need about 1100-1200 watts .     it would hash at 1400gh

Free power would mean  you would get the money you laid out in 70 to 135 days .

you would make a profit of about 250 usd to  650   usd to 1000 usd

all guess work numbers   since I do not know if BTC price jumps or drops.  and I do not know if DIff jumps are 20% or 18%

Although you got free electricity from your landlord, but I don't think he would be happy if your bills increase like $5000. Good luck with that.

If you want to do yourself a favor I would recommend the following:
1.) Hold onto your $1,600 for now
2.) Run bitcoin price calculator to determine exactly how much bitcoin you would mine if you had hardware in hand today.
3.) Wait 3-4 weeks and re-run your calculations for mining coin at same hashrate
4.) And if steps 2 and 3 don't convince you, then jump back onto e-bay in 3-4 weeks and see how much that $1,600 unit is selling for at that time.

If you execute these steps and still decide that putting your $1,600 into mining equipment is smarter than simply purchasing and holding bitcoin then have at it :p
