Should I take that trip to Tokyo?

As those who have lost money in the gox fiasco know, the creditors hearing is on July 23. Being in Manila right now I consider taking the trip and showing up in person at the court for that meeting.

The questions is however whether it is worth my time + expenses. Tokyo is a very expensive city and as such I would only stay there for 2 days for the hearing and then fly right back to Manila where I live right now.

The total costs, including flight and hotel, are by my estimation around 900 Eur, which is ~4% of the money I lost in gox. That being said, I've never been to japan and know basically nothing about that country.

If you were me, would you take that flight?

I'm asking myself the same thing, I lost around 160 BTC in gox fiasco (which were the huge majority of my wealth). But still, I'm not sure if being physically present will change anything. Does someone have more detailed information about what will be discussed in this creditors meeting?

I agree it's unlikely to learn anything new by attending. But it seems the only opportunity to face directly people in charge, and maybe also people accountable for this mess.

Courts do generally react positively to interested parties who bother to show up, and tend to discount those who stay away. The more noise you can make, the better it is likely to go.

Actually, we don't even know that. Without an even plausible explanation for funds disappearance, we cannot be sure our money is gone, though it's very likely. I read that:

• The debtor must be present at the meeting of creditors, with very few exceptions: severe health issues, death, being incarcerated... None of them seem to apply for Mark Karpeles, therefore he must be present.
• Creditors can take advantage of the meeting of creditors to question the debtor, who must answer under oath
• Depending on the issues of the hearing, the trustee can approve / dismiss the bankruptcy or request a confirmation hearing.

So being here to be sure the relevant concerns will be raised, especially inconsistencies and outright lies in Mark Karpeles explanations, seems a good idea to me.

Unless you really want to go explore Japan I wouldn't bother. Save the money or buy yourself something nice with it.
