It takes around 30mins for the system to update your activity. You may need to wait up to 30mins

For second, I thought it was something serious with this forum.

But yeah I didnt know also you have to wait 30 mins, cause sometimes the activity updates real quick.

Yes, your posting wait time will diminish slowly with growing activity.

I've seen some weird stuff occur right when things are getting updated.  Probably OP saw his activity go up but didn't see his level go up until he refreshed.  It took me a while to get a hold of how the system works too.

Beyond post wait time, the other main benefit (I think) is being able to place full color ads with links in your signature space.   Many folks will pay you to rent this space in order to spread the word about their business.
