Dear bitcointalk.org,

I have a question for you, how many vanity addresses could I generate that begin with 1bitco?

Regards

You can use your graphics card(nvidia included) for faster generation.

There are approximately 120,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 possible addresses that start with 1bitco (that's 1.2 X 1044).

There are approximately 80,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 possible addresses that do NOT start with 1bitco (that's 8 X 1052).

So, for every address that you find that starts with 1bitco, you need to search through on average approximately 666,666,667 addresses.

minimum bitcoin address size: 27 characters. Maximum size: 34
1bitco = 6 characters
58 valid character for the other spots

27 characters: (58)^21 (around 10^37) possible unique address
28 characters: (58)^22(around 10^38) possible unique address
29 characters: (58)^23(around 10^40)

Others are more or less one order of maginitude higuer than the previous one, so around 10^41 and 10^42 for 30 and 31 characters.

Sum up, and here is your answer

EDIT: confusion about expoents

58 valid character for the other spots

27 characters: (21)^58 (4*10^27) possible
28 characters: (22)^58(7*10^77) possible

Do I have my math confused?  (It's been known to happen from time to time).

Shouldn't it be 5821 and 5822  (not 2158 and 2258)?

Then again, you do have a PRIMEDICE ad in your sig, and I've generally found that 99% of the people who have such signatures don't have any idea what they are talking about and are just spouting nonsense to get their post count up so they can collect more for the advertisement.

I'll just click "ignore" on your ID until I see some reason to do otherwise.

I think yes, because they have lots of cores that can parallelize the job and make it way quicker than with the few cores a CPU have.

It's the same as mining, your GPU will be much faster than CPU Smiley

There are many, many unique addresses that can have 1bitco in it. As for using vanity addresses, I suggest you put only small amounts on it because some of them aren't that secure compared to those traditionally generated addresses. Good luck on searching a vanity addresses that suits your taste Cheesy

A vanity address is as secure as any other addresses, if you are generating it correctly (use your own GPU, or use split-key generation with vanity pools) and using it correctly (no malware on your machine, etc.)

how do I use it in my wallet?

(Bitcoin-QT)
Use the command: importprivkey (private key here)
Make sure to find one services that allows you to generate split vanity key. If no, the security will be 0 since the server knows your private key.

Is a vanity address hard to make?

No very easy to make.  Deepening on length depends on time to make.
