Let's do the maths: $40,000,000/$15 (one time only membership fee) = 2,666,667 members needed just to meet the VC funding $. Luckily (for somebody), more members than those calculated will sign up to Xapo plus those pesky fees everybody's been cryin' 'bout will close the gap, thus allowing the VCs to ROI after...wait for it...expenses.
