We should get away from the virtual currency label. It makes it sound like an in game currency from one of the big mmorpg games. Personally i prefer crypto currency since it is cryptography that makes it all work.

Is the Internet a network of networks, or a global inter-network routing protocol stack, or is it just the Internet?

funny how things goes on when a new thing starts, you get to name it for the next generations.
i remember that topic about the mining where people were arguing about how confusing it is and minors should be called validators since that's what they do. I myself remember having a lot of troubles understanding wtf mining at first was and connecting the dots with the validation process of the transactions

I prefere digital. Everyone knows what "digital" is (no they actualy do not know but they think they do so it's cool).
Crypto is too much "secret" and virtual is : "what's that, MMO money?"

But isn't it easier just to say 'crypto' and not 'digital currency' ? 2 syllables vs 6 syllables is a wide gap( almost the gap between Brazil and Germany !).

People need to learn what a virtual currency is. Bitcoin is a digital currency.

virtual: gives the mindset that its fake, EG virtual reality=fake reality
digital: mindset that its computer based, but doesnt limit it away from other types of digital currency EG FIAT online bank, facebook credits
cryptographic currency: describes bitcoin but doesnt roll off the tongue
crypto-currency: mindset that its 'cryptic' (mysterious, puzzling, secretive)
crypto: mindset that its 'cryptic' (mysterious, puzzling, secretive), but rolls off the tongue
coin: mindset that its physical
professionally i prefer cryptographic currency, but you have never seen me say on these forums, where i try to stick to laymans. so i say crypto-currency, or crypto.

Bitcoin is NOT 'VIRTUAL' currency. That does matter. But how to name it - 'digital' or 'crypto' currency - it's up to you

Your question is really asking us to define what the definition of "is" is. Regardless of if you define bitcoin as a digital currency, as a crypto currency or as anything else, as long as you understand the underlying fundamentals of how bitcoin operates you will be set
