I apologize for re-posting this here (I put it in the gambling forum on Sunday), but I thought it was maybe worth a new announcement because:

 0. The gambling forum seems to get way less traffic than this one, and March Madness transcends typical gamblers!

 1. An issue with mtgox's API has been resolved!

 2. The field is set and games begin in less than 16 hours, so now is the time to enter!

 3. the 100 BTC pot is already worth about 12% more than it was on Sunday when the site when live!  Smiley

http://www.bitmadness.com/

Thanks!

In order to get the maximum amount of activity points possible, you just need to post once per day on average. Skipping days is OK as long as you maintain the average.

This is awesome!  Entry into the public pool is free.

100 BTC will be paid out and there will be multiple winners!

Here's the link for the public pool:

For the public pool, it says 10,000 BTC Grand Prize if you get every pick correct.

[Update: At the end it asks for the number of points.  What is that for?]

Well, that's only 2^64 submissions your bot would need to make.

For those such as myself who don't follow the sport:

Here are multiple ways to make your bracket picks:
"By Starting Median Salary" and "Proximity to the North Pole" for example.

and
"The Totally Non-Technical Guide to the NCAA Tournament"

or who would win if it were up to the mascots:

Ha, nice.. I've got a quick $GLOBALS['use_captcha'] = 0; I can change to = 1 if you did! Wink

I clarified that on the site now.. it's the tiebreaker in case two people have the same number of points.. you enter the TOTAL points you think will be scored by BOTH teams in the championship game. So like, maybe 134 or so..

Also, I just added a feature! If you invite other people to the pool using the form on that page, you can now choose to receive 10% of everything they win! March Affiliate Madness!

Hey, Josh. Bruno here. Is there any way you can incorporate Bitcoin onto your website? http://dreamhost.com/

Well done! You've managed to search for a term that simply does not exist on dreamhost.com.

We recommend you consider registering "bitcoin.com" because it is, evidently, quite rare!

I love March Madness. I pick St. Mary's Gaels to make it to Sweet Sixteen.

Just a note... that's actually NOT a referral link, that's the plain old link. You have to specifically invite people by email address using the form on that page to get the referral credit (for now at least)!

I definitely want to, but it may take a little while (I'm not really active there anymore, I've been trying to convince people since 2010!), although now that there's the mtgox API that may make it easier!

Also, I just made a new Sweet 16 "second-chance" pool, and now the links to invite people actually ARE referral links!

You can make your own pool at:
http://www.bitmadness.com/new16.php

or sign up for a free one with a 25 BTC pot at:
http://www.bitmadness.com/pool.php?g=UC27YF84

or sign up for a 1 BTC one with an additional 25 BTC pot at:
http://www.bitmadness.com/pool.php?g=B99SNG25
(less competition for the 25 BTC!)

Note, for both of those the scoring includes a bonus for correctly picking an underdog!

I'm a brit, don't know anything about this at all - I don't even know what sport it is, if I did probably wouldn't know how to play it... never mind having heard of the teams (except in the sense of them being places)... but have entered anyway in the free 25 bitcoin pool under name of coin flipper

Now watch me win!

Heyo!

Just letting you know http://www.bitmadness.com/ is back with another free bitcoin basketball pool: this time, it's the NBA playoffs!

There's a 20 BTC pot and no entry fee, so what have you got to lose?

There's also a 1 BTC entry fee pool with an extra 10 BTC added to the pot.. why do that one? Less competition means more likely to win!

And as before, if you refer people to any pool (using the link you'll get when you visit the pool), if they end up winning anything you get 10% of their prize money for referring them!

Oh yeah, and you can of course create and run your own private pool(s) using bitcoin or cash, for free!

GO CELTICS!

josh!
