The Bitcoin software, network, and concept is called "Bitcoin" with a capitalized "B". Bitcoin currency units are called "bitcoins" with a lowercase "b" -- this is often abbreviated BTC.

Yes I noticed some pool-x downtime today too. I've shifted to litecoin.miningpool.com until pool-x get back to speed. I wish minerd had a backup pool option!

I guess everyone should switch to p2pool before it's too late.

pooler: dextrosomniac: yes, and my pools has also been dos'ed

Apparently all litecoin pools are being DDoS'd right now, including p2pool nodes:

I wish minerd had a backup pool option!

That's actually pretty easy to implement using a wrapper script. Here's a very basic example:
https://gist.github.com/2053044
This is just a very simple example that makes the miner fail over to a different pool if the current one fails a given number of times.
Using commands such as timeout you can implement all the strategies you want. The possibilities are endless.

I'm sure there must be a way of doing that on other operating systems, too.
