We all know that things like blogs and social media are part of "Web 2.0" and people are already talking about "Web 3.0." The problem I have with that is that most people talk about how Web 3.0 is going to be a kind of massive Artificial Intelligence version of Google that can take a sentence like, "I want to see a funny movie and then find a good place to hang out with the gals tonight," and break it down into recommendations for a comedy and a nightclub. This doesn't take into account the fact that the Web isn't just search engines when ecommerce and the movement of money are going to be part of the Web too. How do you think Bitcoin is going to fit into Web 3.0?

I think it will be pretty much the same. Bitcoin is a currency, it's not a blog or some website that is part of the web. So I'm not sure how it would change.

Good point. Right now I'm just thinking of ways that Bitcoin can be made to work with Web 3.0. |

According to w3 org the original internet structure included the http error status code 402 Payment Required. It's possible that the bit coin servers could finally fulfill this functionality if they were integrated into Web 3.0. http://www.w3.org/Protocols/rfc2616/rfc2616-sec10.html |

Commonly, the "internet of things" has been referred to as the "web 3.0", but I believe a true decentralized P2P architecture (e.g. Bitcloud, MaidSafe), i.e. abstracting content and services away from location (server IPs), would be the more fitting equivalent, as it will enable a whole new level of participation.

Bitcoin indeed is a protocol. I am sure this protocol will be used to host web systems "in cloud" that is automatic and decentralized.. Maidsafe is doing this?

BTC tech allow a completely different sort of organization through decentralization and how to vote / pay for things.
the main thing holding it back to data size, but things like maid safe and NXT tech may see to that as well.

Bitcoin is the answer to stupid buzzwords and marketing gimmicks like "web 2.0". It has enough substance and purpose to transcend silly jargon that, when translated back into English, usually means "horrible interface or layout" for the sake of looking sleek and minimalist. The equivalent of a shallow, attention-seeking fashion statement. As far as I can tell, that's all web 2.0 ever actually meant in practice. Bitcoin has practical and tangible applications that benefit users and outclasses existing legacy services.

Some interesting insights, fellas. I have heard that the original designers of the Internet included protocols that could have been used for handling anything that required a financial transaction, but those protocols didn't get used very much because, basically, cryptocurrencies didn't exist yet.

Just remember that Internet and the Web are two different things. Bitcoin itself works on the Internet, but not on the Web.
Moreover, I think the “Web 2.0” is just a marketing gimmick with no real meaning.

Would it be fair to say, then, that Bitcoin could cause people to reconsider the ways that they traditionally think of money and the financial system? Or that Bitcoin is simply an adaptation of money and/or economic systems to the digital age? |
