I've got a new laptop, it has Windows 7 64 bit, and an Intel Core i7 CPU. It supports 8 threads. I am an administrator on the PC.
Bitcoin won't work properly. I install it, and it runs, compiling its blockchain. At some point (past 80%), it crashes. It will never run again after that; it shows a Visual C++ error thereafter.
I tried wiping c:\users\myusername\appdata\roaming\bitcoin and reinstalling. Again, after it loads the database for a few hours, crashes forever after.
Note that the problem occurs with either my "real" wallet.dat, or the new wallet.dat it automatically creates.
Also, if I manually copy in the blockchain database, same problem. I can copy it from my old PC, or directly download it, same problem.
Running the program As Administrator does not help. Running the program in XP Compatibly Mode does not help.
I found one fix: If I run a virtual XP machine on the new PC, it works OK within the XP virtual machine.
Anyone have any ideas? It looks to me like Bitcoin won't work on Windows 7 64 Bit with Core i7.
