So I am new to bitcoin mining and I was wondering what to look for when picking out a video card for a mining rig I am not quite sure what to look for, but if you would like to help me set up a rig that would be much appreciated I wouldnt want to spend more than $800 and I would like to try and make a coin a day. Any help will be appreciated, Thanks.

1(one) coin per day is (approx.) 1600 Mh/s.
1600 Mh/s is a 2x7970 video cards.

so, the cost is 2x549$ + motherboard+ram+power supply. Sum is minimum 1500$, I think.
That's price for getting 1 BTC a day, except if you found and buy cheaply used parts.

Are there any cheaper video cards that would add up to a little more mhash and i could just get a motherboard with three PCI slots, and is the 7970 video card amd(ati)?

The one coin per day part of your request is where things get tricky.  You could easily get 3 used 5870 for about 200ish each on ebay which would net you about 1300Mh/s and still have room to get the board, cpu, mem, and psu.  Even better if you have some of that stuff already.  This will get you under 1 coin a day though.

With difficulty rising again, trying to get 1 coin a day is getting more expensive.  Also don't forget about electricity to run you rig(s).

My personal opinion is that if your electricity rates are fairly high then you should go for the most efficient gpu hardware you can get, if not then get many cards as cheaply as you can.

Tired of substandard power distribution in your ASIC setup???   Chris' Custom Cablez will get you sorted out right!  No job too hard so PM me for a quote
